It's a pretty quiet spot to spend a night.
There's a couple toilets in the campervan area (which were cleaner than the ones on the Tongariro trail) (there's a separate area for tents. People were pitched pretty close together).
You can either park in a more private spot with tall bushes either side or in this circular area with 5-6 car spots.
Not that scenic because of the tall bushes and trees all around.

Paid $29 for an ocean view powered site.
It was definitely worth the money after a few days without a hot shower and having to wait out a rainy day.
Facilities were clean, and the shower water temperature and pressure really good. Was quiet when I went there on 1 Dec.

Was in a campervan.
The cost of a powered site seemed quite cheap/reasonable. Bathroom and kitchen facilities were clean when I was there. Didn't notice traffic noise at all in the van. It's a good spot to stay the night before doing the Tongariro Alpine Crossing (depending how you are doing the hike). Go for a walk around the river as well.

I agree with the earlier reviews.
You can also pay for your stay by bank transfer. The cash envelope is also still available.
There's 6 powered sites and plenty more space for non-powered.
I stayed on a Wednesday night right at the end of Spring and there were only 3 other cars/trailers in the car park.
