Free, beautiful swimming spot and very close to Taupo (pronounced Toe-Paw don't mess it up!) and Huka falls.
Only downside is it is not a well kept secret. Every freedom camper and their dog wants to stay there so be prepared to share personal space. Toilets were worse than most music festival portaloos so take jandals. My best tip would be to stay in the smaller area which most people overlook and so has more space. When driving in turn at the driveway a few metres over from the main entry (on the Taupo side).

Super basic kitchen and laundry.
Good warm showers. Fairly small gravelly camp space but worth it for the thermal pools. Pretty expensive for the campsite alone though, only worth it if you want to soak in the pools.

Good clean facilities but quite expensive.
$26 per person for non powered site. $5 shovel rental + $20 refunded deposit. Hot water beach within short walking distance but gets really crowded, you have to show up 2 hours before low tide to find a good spot for a hole. Very touristy and more family oriented.
Hi Magenta,
Thank you for your review. Hot water Beach can be crowded during summer as the higher accommodation prices on the Coromandel.
We do run a family orientated holiday park, but cater for all travellers.
Many Thanks

This place is lovely, lots of space and good facilities. $10 per person. Loved looking at the huge variety of trees conserved on the land. Enjoy your time here.

This place is so beautiful. Remote, spacious and tranquil. Waking up to the sound of the river right next to the van was a highlight. Drive right down to the end of the road to be near the water don't stay on the top paddock. It is a lot of fun to be swept down the river. Bring a body board if you can! Drop toilets are kept clean and despite no drinking water you can wash dishes with the taps available. Would give this place 11 if I could.
