This was our first freedom camp and it was superb.
Clean toilets and ruining water. Peace and quiet woodland setting. Lovely walks in the woods (take a torch for the tunnel on the walk it's 50 metres long and pitch dark)
Space for a lot of SC campers. Wildlife galore.

Nice site with clean toilets and showers, easy walk to beach with local bar takeaway etc.
Not much of a view on the site but we found that with all the paid sites. If you want a pitch with a view go for a DOC or freedom camping site.
Thanks for your review

Great facilities, great sea views ( from our powered site) stroll to restaurants in village, easy access to lovely beach.
Clean toilets and showers. Hefty but rewarding walk along beach and cliff tops to Cathedral Cove. Really good site.

Friendly manager who lent us a spade for Hot water Beach and gave great advice on parking and tides etc.
Not much of a view from the standings though. Good clean toilets & showers.

Busy site in summer.
clean toilets, bring your own shower. Friendly DOC warden. Fabulous sea view pitches lovely walks along the beach, lots of wildlife including the odd Hoon or two racing up and down the beach on quads and motorbikes. They don't do it for long. As with all free sites there is no entertainment so all fully quiet by 2100. If it's a clear night with no moon it's a very dark sky - fantastic for start gazing.

Nice staff but site was quite crowded, had tents pitched on powered sites which made things a bit tight.
Toilets and Showers clean. Good access to Taupo boat launch sites, fish cleaning facilities on site too.

Good clean site, gets busy in summer.
Clean toilets & nice showers, hot tubs & pool. Good sized pitches and a very welcoming vibe. Bit of a walk to town for attractions like Kayaking and Whale watching but restaurants and shops close to hand. We liked it.

Site was quite busy but toilets were clean.
Lovely steam on site kids fishing for eels etc. As the schools had just broken up 10 local kids decided to party out and camp. They made some noise early on but settled down about 2100 mostly due to torrential rain which made a river through the site. Some local Hoons decided to save their 4x4s around the site around 1900 but the sight of several angry camper parents was enough for them to get going and not come back.
There is a walk to a Waterfall detailed on the noticeboard. Says it should be one hour round trip designated easy. Beware, it's not easy and will take a lot longer. Take strong hiking boots and be prepared to wade in mud and scramble on rocks...
Most folks are there to do Waitomo caves next day so it's a race out in the morning!
