Truly a challenging tramp. DOC brochure is good. I felt DOC staff in Te Anau were talking me out of it. I do not understand why Lake Hauroko Tours has better info than DOC.

Huts are fine. Scenery is very beautiful. Track is a bit muddy, especially the second half needs a few more boardwalks. We think it is worth the effort to go there.

Campsite is very close to the road, we did not feel safe.
we left adn continued to Lake Mahinapua. Much better.
