Clean toilets.
Clean showers. Campground is immaculate. Perfect beach and river alongside which is really calm and perfect place to relax. (You have to check out this water. It’s crystal clear and absolutely stunning.) Plenty of spaces and ranger was very friendly.
CASH ONLY.
Super close to Cape Reinga. Short hike but we decided to drive as a lot of the hike is uphill and it was a really hot day.
Would highly recommend.

Lovely spot.
Definitely recommend. Clean toilet facilities. Friendly grounds manager. No showers unfortunately.
Beautiful beaches and cliff side rocks to walk across. The place itself is very well taken care of. Compost bins. Recycling and garbage - which is what a lot of campsites actually lack in New Zealand.
Plenty of shaded area if you are staying in a tent like we did.
Clean drinking water no need to boil before hand.
Gates close at 9pm for entrance to the park so whatever you do be there before 9.

Decent camp area.
It’s free so can’t complain too much really.
The bathrooms were alright for a nights stay. No shower. No drinking water. Small area for campers. It was jam packed as it is peak season for campers in New Zealand. Says only 5 permitted but was about 18 vehicles all parked up close together.
If you want to stay get there early on. We arrived at 2pm and after 4 was when the whole lot of people started coming in.
Cool caves and nice hike to the top of the mountain.
Whangarei District Council here. This is not a campground, it is a public place where overnight camping for one night is permitted. The majority of 'free' camping areas that are not on Department of Conservation land are the same - public parks and reserves but NOT campgrounds, so please do not expect any facilities other than a public toilet. There are signs saying you have to park within the designated area, but the sign does not say only 5 vehicles permitted. Hope this helps.

Beach camping is always the positive.
Showers are outdoors so no privacy. Toilets not the cleanest.
There’s no one in the office the 2 days we were there so not sure how you’re suppose to pay if you don’t have any cash on you?? Had to call the city council later to set up payment.
Grass area for camping. Lots of shade. Beach is nice which really made it enjoyable. Clean grounds, no rubbish etc laying around.
EXTREMELY BAD FOR BUGS.
Beautiful to visit for the day but would not highly recommend.

AMAZING PLACE.
Very worth the money. Clean. Organised. Lots of camping spots. Extremely nice owner. The son of the owner (I presume) was there while we were checking out and was of so much help to us - where to go, what to see, traffic areas to avoid, best places to find work. Really lovely guy with genuine personality towards customers.
Kitchen, bbq area was a dream. Very basic but everything needed to enjoy cooking.
Bathrooms were always kept clean. The showers as well.
Although the showers were hot and clean, they cost $1 per use. (Which is more than reasonable!).
Only negative was how short it was. Pretty sure it was 4 minutes, which isn’t really enough time. Not an issue at all with paying but LADIES heads up if you have long hair to wash or enjoy showers over 5 minutes....bring a few dollars with you so you’re not cut off mid condition!
HIGHLY RECOMMEND. Was one of the best so far and have been camping for a few weeks now all over the North Island.

Nice area.
Very peaceful. Quite annoying that it is such a good deal for $8 but there is no way to make change if you have $10, $20 notes etc. HAVE CASH ON YOU.
Clean toilets. Nice shower. Good place to wash your dishes. Well maintained camping ground.
No one came to check our ticket or anything - would have preferred to have just waited until someone came around to deposit the money as when you put it in the envelope to be put into the Dropbox, the envelope doesn’t go all the way in.
Not a very good system in that sense.
Otherwise nice place to stay for a couple nights.
Avoid the rooster that wanders at all cost.....
