Good kitchen and clean bathrooms I guess but that's about it.
The train runs over your head in the campground and during our night it ran 2 or 3 times I think. Didn't sleep much that night... owner very tired and the whole park is very tired. My boyfriend took our kid to go play on the playground but quickly came back because it seemed very not safe. Go somewhere else even for the night. It's not worth the money.

The walk up to the Pinnacles is nice.
Blows like heaps on the campground. Our tent almost left us hanging there. No drinking water and nowhere to do dishes except the river. Very bad toilets.

Beautiful sunset and nice beach.
Small but good campsite with a playground for kids. Tap water unsure if drinkable. Toilet in okey shape. Cheap!

Pretty down by the water.
Every site is private. Picnic tables and fresh toilets. Well kept after and order. Recommended!

Very good campsite, friendly staff and well equipped kitchen.
Cozy and nice. Heat in kitchen and toilets so that was really nice in the cold weather! Highly recommended!

Very nice camping, toilets in good shape.
No drinking water and nowhere to do dishes. But there is a river. Very nice swimming spots even for families with small kids like us.

Okay campsite but lake seems dead and it's pretty unspecial.
Nice surroundings though.

No drinking water but besides that it's really nice.
Sinks to do dishes, soap in toilets and lots of kiwis. They will steal your food so look out. Very recommended campsite!

Drinking water, showers for cost, toilets and very little and cute campground.
Cooking shelter, washing machine and sink for dishes. The town is a bit odd, little tired but still very proud and well taken care of. Strange mix and worth the visit. A beach that feels like the elephant graveyard in lion king but nice and not scary. I would recommend a trip out there. A very nice playground also for kids just by the campground.

No soul, it's just big.
Nothing else, nothing more. Many locals I guess and much music playing. Not what we expected from a national park.

A typical Top 10 park at standard level.
They have a jumping mat and playground for kids, kitchen and toilets are without warmth unfortunately. There is a family shower and baby bath. Nice campground and very very nice and friendly owner. Recommended if you want to stay at a holiday park.

I think there is drinking water but actually don't remember anymore (5 weeks ago now).
There is cooking shed and toilets and water from tap where you can do dishes. So beautiful landscape with white mountain walls and a river with lots of stones. Epically beautiful. One of the best campsites. It has been bought by the more expensive campsite further in on the road past the bridge. They do not allow you to buy time in their showers so that's a bit weird but I reckon they are going to modernise Mangaweka Campground and after that start taking more in payment. So go there before this happens!
Many thanks for taking the time to review. The campground is a lovely spot by the river. The toilet and shower block upgrade is complete. Tokens are available to anyone who wants a hot shower..for purchase of $3 per shower at Awastone, our main office just over the bridge. Safe travels..

If I could give more I would.
Only negative that there is no drinking water. But there are taps so you can do dishes. And toilets. And just a remarkable nature! So tranquil and wonderful. Go there!!

For the area a really good and cozy campground.
Friendly owners, good amenities. Maybe a bit unclean but on the other hand we first payed for a stay at a much more expensive campground which was in the same state so I didn't really mind this place. Seems north island campings in this area are expensive and maybe not worth the money in the same way as on the South Island. I recommend this camping when staying in Hamilton!

Okay for a free camping site but the main purpose is not the campers and you feel like you are staying there on grace rather than feeling welcome.
No place or way to do dishes, really dirty toilets where the paper was out before the day was over. Not charming camping site. But free. Although 30 min drive from Rotorua so not suitable if you want to do things in town. The gas is going to cost you more than the experience gives you.

Hippie camping and feels like a Coachella festival gone bad.
Almost fell into the river while doing dishes and toilets were a mess. The ground is like a swamp so when using a tent I would recommend not to stay in the lower parts as we did. You will get flushed away if it rains. Which it obviously did when we stayed. There was a man standing and laughing at our baby for five minutes at one point? Don't know, don't ask...
But the camping was at least free!

In the middle of nowhere with locals using it best as they find suits them which means parties, using it as a dog playground and jetski arena.
Dogs are not allowed for those staying in the camping site but obviously they are for locals. Pretty surrounding and drinking water, cooking shelter, flush toilets (4), hand soap and dish sink. So good facilities. Be very careful driving there and don't drive "the opposite" to what the locals expect you to do which means leave in the morning and arrive early afternoon. The roads there are really small and locals drive reeeeally fast on them and also in the middle of the road. So accidents could happen. But seem to the area of the north island I all and all feel it's a very nice campground!
