Nice quiet park up, we were the only ones there in late December!
The area had been visited by hoons and the grass all skidded up, but not the fault of the providers. The disappointment was no info saying "no dogs" but all the walks were dogs not allowed

Very tidy and well maintained campsite, friendly operators, only a few powered sites so book in advance if wanting power.
Kids loved it, great playground and awesome swimming in the tidal estuary right at the edge of.the campsite

Secure and safe stopover with 24hr access, great if you are arriving late or needing to catch some sleep before leaving early.
Just take into account that Waiouru is high elevation so will be colder than most places you stay. Definitely self contained only and checked everytime by security. The mueseum is defintitely worth a visit too if you have time

For the price ($10 per person for a powered site) this is a very nice site.
$2 extra for hot showers but very clean, spacious, and powerful showers. Great walks down to the river, cool kids playground, and nice camping under the mature trees. The only downsides are the lack of kitchen facilities and that it can get quite boggy after a lot of rain. My dog loved the bush walks though

It says no "large vehicle access" so I emailed ahead asking if a 2 berth ford transit was ok.
Reply said fine but the drive and car park were tight and with low electrical cables - definitely not suitable for anything larger than a freedom camper people mover size. On top of this a grumpy old man running the place told me after I parked that I couldn't stay as my van was too big (clearly not the same person who answers the emails). Many of the reviews on here refer to the same grumpy service issues. I wouldn't recommend this - particularly for the price. It's ok as a backpackers but definitely not good as a campsite

I read some of the reviews and was expecting a fairly average experience but was pleasantly surprised.
Nice clean toilets and showers, pleasant reception, and tidy campsite. Was disappointing that there was a 6 foot fence between the campsite and the river so nothing special on the site itself but lovely public parks and walks right next door.
