Very convenient location, especially if crossing the ferry.
The site itself is just a parking lot right off a major road, but there are good facilities. There is a dump site, drinking water and flush toilets. There are plenty of spots.

Great facilities, including an outdoor shower.
Right on the ocean with amazing sea views. A bit crowded, as it is just a parking lot, but still quiet.

A beautiful location right on the bay.
There are great facilities, including drinking water and flush toilets. There is a great path you can walk along the bay for a long time. There are limited free camping spots, so get there early to claim your spot. Also double check the sign to make sure you are parked in the free camp spots. It is just a parking lot with a a few spots reserved for freedom camping.

Amazing location right on the river.
To park for free you need to be truly self contained, with a toilet in the van. It was the nicest place we stayed our whole trip, and we really enjoyed the river and gorgeous sunset!

An incredible location!
You can park anywhere from the main road to the power station. You can pull off anywhere on one of the dirt roads and find a quiet spot among the trees. There are no facilities, but the visitor centre nearby has bathrooms. It felt very remote and it was quiet. Amazing views of the mountains and east lake access.

An incredible location with fantastic views of the mountains.
Right on the lake. It was quiet when we went, but there is boating on the lake. A great place to stay when visiting Mount Sunday. You definitely feel like you are camping in Rohan! Quiet at night with great views of the stars. You can take a nice swim in the lake and enjoy the beautiful surroundings!

We only used this site to sleep.
Terrible sandflies in the morning, but amazing stars at night. As soon as you turn off the road, take a right towards the river after the no camping sign (which is a little confusing). If you hit a bunch of homes or mobile homes you have gone too far. It is difficult to find in the dark, but there are plenty of spaces and it is right on the river.

One of the prettiest campsites we have been to on the South Island.
Hiking access directly from the campsite. It is right off the road, but it is quiet and not very busy. Basic toilet. Be there early to get a spot with gorgeous views of the mountain.

We have nothing but the best things to say.
Very large location with plenty of room, flush toilets and a great swimming spot! Beautiful views of the surrounding mountains and directly on the lake. An amazing and quiet location super close to the action!

Small site right off the road.
The turn off for the entrance is at the very end of the guard rail if coming from Te Anau. Difficult to spot at night, but east options for turning around if you miss it. There are a couple spots at the front, or you can take a small road towards the back where there are a couple more spots right on the river. Close to the highway but minimal noise. No facilities but public bathrooms are available in Mossburn about two minutes drive away.

This locations toilet was unusable, so plan to use your toilet.
Difficult to find, especially at night, but the turn off is to the right of the bridge if coming from Queenstown. Not a very impressive site, but good if you need a place to crash for the night.

Beautiful views of the mountains and right on a river.
Lots of spots. Two drop toilets but no water. Sandflies were rather pesky, but to be expected.
