Very nice spot near beach.
Clean facilities, hot showers included. A living is missing for rainy days! Laundry and dump-station available. Ideal for spotting the birds colony and fantastic sundowns.

4.0/5
Absolute silent free campsite, directly at the Waipu Caves.
One of the two toilets was out of order, outdoor shower was working. The photo here doesn't match the signs at the parking, but no one cares about campervans all over the parking area in this wilderness. Tents are also possible at the great grass area surrounding the graveled parking.

4.0/5
Lovely and scenic beach campsite.
You can place your van where you want across the area. Hot showers $2/4min. No powered sites, no dumping. Only short walk to the fantastic beach. Ideal for visiting Waipu Caves.

Disappointed from this campsite!
Only a big grass area without any separating bushes or trees, many resident caravans and their "buildings" don't look very nice. Toilets and showers are strangely mixed, to less bathroom sinks without any possibility to put or hangup clothes .. So in sum too many missing details for 50$ /powered+2 Adults! We only spent one night, it's too expensive!

Wonderful place to stay, all campsites are separated for privacy, ideal for hiking, large kitchen, washer/dryer sometimes in use without pause, showers/toilets good.
Spent there 2 nights. Very friendly staff. Interesting I-site, worth visiting!
North Island ▷ Waikato ▷ Waitomo ▷
4.0/5
Nice spot, close to all Waitomo - actions.
Friendly staff gave us a warm welcome, 38nzd for power +2 adults. Goats, pics and deer nearby, food waste is feeded. Minus: close to the main road and noise from cars starts early!

Fairly good campsite, separated spaces for privacy, kitchen and laundry available, showers and toilets clean, dumping possible.
Spent there only one night on the way to westcoast.

Everything is very clean, washer/dryer available, dumping possible. absolutely quiet, recommend this space!

Many thanks to the county for this great place.
Water and dumping facilities are available, also a big area for tents. Very silent during the night, we felt safe because of a light all night long (not disturbing us to sleep). Of course we gave a donation of $5.

Flat lawn area, only few toilets, no showers, dumpstation available.
Single highlight is the beachfront with kilometers of walks in both directions. Perfect for dog-owners!

3.0/5
We came here by luck, only because of a SH3-closing.
This is an overnight place at its minimum: a dark picnic area on a hill at a winding forest street. A graveled place only with one table, no water, no toilets, no signs at all but a little bit scary here in the middle of nowhere..
North Island ▷ Wairarapa ▷ Ngawi ▷
4.0/5
Fantastic place at the beach.
Toilets and recycling bins are available, also a dump-station at the other side of the street and stunning sundowns! No water, no swimming possible, but nevertheless worth staying at least 1 night! 10 minutes to cape Palliser and the seals colony.
South Island ▷ Marlborough ▷ Picton / Marlborough Sounds ▷
4.5/5
Big places, clean kitchen and showers (included), washing and drying available, friendly staff, 40$ powered site for 2 adults and Campervan, good site!
WLAN included.

The I-site - officials told us to use all the parking slots at the waterfront during the night.
The two yellow-marked Campervan-slots are only for 60min. day-parking.
Nice location near CBD and some bars/restaurants. No more infrastructure at all.

Really simple car park, no toilets, no water..
Good for a one night stay. The marked area is probably too small for large vehicles.
South Island ▷ West Coast ▷ Reefton ▷
4.0/5
Easy access from the main road, but still quiet, large spaces at the lawn areas or in "private" boxes under the trees.
Prepared fire places, clean toilets, water and bins available. 5h walk (return) to St. Daniel Lake. Beware of the sand flies!
South Island ▷ Nelson Region ▷ Murchison ▷

Near the street, not very quiet.
The falls are really impressive, at all a good place for an overnight stop.

34$ for two and a camper WITH beachfront site - OK, we're lucky at this "old school" camping area.
But it's nice and the owners really friendly. Cooking facilities available, the showers a little bit out of time, but no additional costs.
South Island ▷ Marlborough ▷ Outer Marlborough Sounds ▷
4.5/5
A really lovely place surrounded by nature.
Only a few places on flat lawn, water and a long drop toilet available, also few tables. But no shops or anything else. Ideal for hiking, swimming and kayaking.

Pretty nice place in walking distance to Hanmer Springs.
Clean toilets nearby. Becomes crowded in the evening, but good for a one night stay.

4.0/5
Very unique area, seems to be a little bit "lost in time", totally off-site, absolutely quiet.
Unsigned sites, you can put up where you want. Showers $2/4 mins. Children's playground. Friendly staff.

Go up the hill to Patiti Point Reserve.
Fantastic view over the ocean, but only around 8 places.
Public barbecue area nearby, so may be noisy on weekends. Public toilets 5 minutes walk away.
Absolutely nothing else around you to get food or drinks. The harbour area looks a bit scary for a walk at night.
South Island ▷ Canterbury ▷ Akaroa ▷

Well signed at entry of Akaroa, at the end it is a carpark, but clean toilets are available and only a short walk to the beautiful town.
South Island ▷ Wanaka Region ▷ Makarora ▷

Very beautiful but small campspace, direct lake access (brrrr cold!), separate area for tents, only two toilets.
South Island ▷ West Coast ▷ Punakaiki ▷

Quiet and clean, one picnic table, nice walkway with lots of palm trees, near river, beach access 500m, 1km to Pancake Rocks.
No facilities at all!
South Island ▷ Nelson Region ▷ Abel Tasman ▷
4.0/5
This site is ideal for exploring the Abel Tasman Park.
We did a one day hiking tour and a one day kayak tour from here. The staff is very friendly and answers any question. Showers costs one dollar. May be too less of them (2 men/2 woman) in high season. Laundry and kitchen are very clean, campsites between trees and on grass. Cost 40nzd for 2 people and a camper.

Lovely location, warm contact to locals, restricted to 6 self contained vans!
Long drop toilet is OK, but no water anywhere.

Phenomenal view - when the weather is pleasant!
No hiding in case of strong winds. Toilets and even a-plugs available during daylight. Time to ferry max. 30min on workdays, we needed only 15min on Sunday 7am.
Noisy on weekends because of 4wd-fans playing on the gravel beachroad until 10pm.
But worth a visit!
North Island ▷ Taupo Region ▷ Taupo ▷

Spectacular view across the Lake Taupo, a little bit windy, so you have to park your van in the right direction to get a calm sleep.
North Island ▷ Rotorua Region ▷ Rotorua ▷
4.0/5
A good and quiet place.
Missing toilets and waste bins shouldn't be a problem for self contained vans. It's only a 2 min walk to the Polynesian Spa, we loved bathing there! About 15min walk to the city bars and restaurants. Security checks at 9pm for non full contained campers, only those are allowed!
North Island ▷ Northland ▷ Kaeo ▷

Scenic path and view from Rainbow Warrior memorial.

North Island ▷ Coromandel ▷ Whangamata ▷

Clean and quiet location, we stayed directly (3m) near the sea, sounds great!
Toilets and outside showers about 100m away, perfect for a overnight stay on the way to Coromandel.
