My husband and I spent 2 nights at Ahipara Holiday Park on a powered site, as we were travelling in a motorhome.
We used Ahipara as the base for our day trip up to Cape Reinga ; this worked really well. The park was fabulous; the bathrooms were well maintained, clean and even had piped radio through speakers. They were also warm on the cool days! Although we did not use it, there was a nice kitchen and reception area where you could sit at beautiful wooden slab tables. The campsites were individualised so you felt in your own space. In all this park has been well thought of and designed. There is added security with the gates closing at 10pm. The beach was a 5 minute walk and we were lucky to have a great sunny day to see many of the locals out enjoying the spring sunshine. Best so far in NZ.

Travelling in a motorhome, my husband and I checked in on a Saturday night of a long weekend.
So in essence we were lucky to get a powered site, of which we got the last one! We were in the boat parking space at the back of the camp. The camp is on the side of a river with mainly swamp lands around. When the tide is in you can access the river, where we saw a number putting in their jet skis. We didn’t use the main bathroom blocks as there was a smaller one situated near us at the back of the park; it was fairly new and clean. In summary a nice little park, very open however.

BEST CAMPSITE AT THE BAY OF ISLANDS.
Arriving into the Bay of Islands in our motorhome, we had our mind sets that we had to be on the water, as you do here! We arrived into Russell (cute town!) and then got the car ferry from Opua to Paihia. The campsites around Paihia were not great, so we took a punt on the Falls Campground; wow we were pleased we did. The views here are amazing; campsite looks directly at Haruru falls. The grounds man and reception were fabulous. If you score the front sites great, however don’t be put off if you don’t.; we didn’t and we loved the site we got as all sites really have uninterrupted views. The bathrooms were very clean and the laundry, which I used worked really well. Cost was the cheapest we had to date. We would have stayed here another night, however time was not on our side. TIP: take the walk from the campsite to the falls and you can even continue to the Waitangi reserve if you have a few hours up your sleeve. Would stay here again in a heart beat.
