We liked this holiday park.
Motorhome / campervan pitches are in groups of 4, but still a reasonable amount of room. 2 laundry rooms, but each only has 2 washing machines and 1 dryer. Lovely views of the Waitangi river. We didn't use the kitchens. A bit chilly in the bathroom for showers, but the showers were free when we visited in mid-October, and the water pressure and temperature was ok.
There are footpaths all the way from the holiday park to the main beach if you want to walk back to Paihia. There is a little grass ramp into the river, but for most of the day the river is very far out from the ramp with only un-walkable mud before the river water.

My girlfriend and I decided to go with Affordable Motor Home Rentals for our campervan rental, and we were very pleased we did.
We chose them because the prices seemed much better value for us considering we weren't bothered about having a brand new model campervan, and from the very first e-mail the communication with Lynda and team were very reassuring and friendly. We went with the 2 berth compact Ford transit and it was the perfect size for us both. It meant we weren't stood outside cooking in the cold in a small camper, but meant we also weren't trying to drive a massive motorhome around the New Zealand roads. Our van also had the power it needed to get up the hills really well and to safely overtake any slow tourists in their little hire cars! We are both 6'0 in height and could just about stand up in the van, the bed was very big and we didn't feel squashed, we were also provided with plenty of bedding to keep us comfy and warm.
At one point on the holiday we had an issue with our gas bottle, which was resolved with a phone call to Lynda who was glad to help sort us out. We felt safe and supported on our holiday with a campervan from Affordable Motorhomes and would definitely use them again and recommend them to anyone without hesitation. What a lovely family company!

Be careful not to miss the turn off from the main road like we did.
A lovely area with plenty of space and views of the lake. Good spot if you're visiting Hobbiton, allow yourself about 30 mins drive.

Wouldn't bother with the actual hot water beach itself if we come to NZ again, but this holiday park was good.
Had a nice campervan parking spot with bushes either side for privacy. Bathroom was good, could have done with a bit more counter space, but that's all I can say for negative. Showers were free and had good temperature and pressure.
Hi Edward,
Thanks for your review and appreciation of our facilities - the hot water springs on the beach are best in the early morning or at night as the beach is quiet then and a completely different experience.
Kind Regards

Not worth the drive up the Coromandel Peninsula just for this, only go if you're also visiting somewhere else on the peninsula.
The area where you can actually dig for hot water is about 10m x 10m, so is immediately full of people.
At least it is also a nice beach so we enjoyed our walk, but will give hot water beach a miss if we visit NZ again.
Go to the first car park down the hill from the road, as it is free and you can walk down the beach to the hot water area.
