What a great campsite for $10 (& that was for 2 of us, non powered).
We stayed here several times over a 2 month trip, basically whenever we needed a shower ($1 for 4 minutes hot). Communal lounge/dining area to hide in when it rains, communal kitchen with all the necessities (they didn't seem to mind you charging your phone up here either), waste dump and fresh water. Yes, it's not scenic but you literally cannot get more for your campsite money in NZ. Super friendly caretaker too.

Interesting gravel road to site but most vans should be ok.
Clean long drop. Bit of interest with the hotel & the old mine (worth a walk to). But beware---a mouse got into our van! Keep your food locked and out of reach!

Great open space.
Long drops. Ample parking by the trees. Drive up not too bad at all.

What a great find for free!
Stayed here about 12 times over 2 months as climbing in the area. Exceptionally busy over Easter but quieter after, though always at least 10 vehicles, even when - 5°c! However, DOC do a great job with the toilet (long drop) - always stocked with toilet paper and hand sanitiser! The ducks are super friendly too, especially 'Hoppy', the one-legged mallard.
