We pulled in here late at night, a few other campers and a few random cars.
Unfortunately we had no choice but to camp next to a man in his car. Not camping, he just sat up in his car all night with the exterior light on.... I'll admit this happened a lot and we were unnerved by it. Given the location it was very strange.
The campsite was clean and tidy. On a nice lake which was lovely. Drop toilets which we didn't use but looked well maintained.

Mawley Holiday Park

Rodney at Mawley holiday Park is just a beautiful, charming local.
He runs one of the nicest parks we stayed at. The holiday park was affordable, clean and beautifully looked after.
Rodney came and checked in on us which was very nice of him, unfortunately the weather was typical New Zealand weather and our camper got bogged. We managed to free it with some help from some of the semi-permanent residents which was also lovely and very helpful.
We made sure to tell Rodney that's we'd made a mess and he was completely okay! He blamed the weather and not us and he was just an all round lovely bloke.
We'd stay again here every year if we could.
Clean shower and bathrooms as well! No wait to use them.

For a free camping spot there's no complaints from us!
We were a bit skeptical to stay based on previous comments but in the end we stayed there because the other freedom option didn't have a toilet.
Great spot right on the ocean! Very clean toilets too! There was one old vagrant in his car all night and left early in the morning, he did have a chat to some other campers but we avoided him and he was no trouble. I would recommend and stay again!

Very quiet location right on the lake!
7 out of 10 because there was no lights in the bathroom which is a bit scary. Other campers around us but everyone kept to theirselves so no hassles. Great spot! I would recommend and stay again!

Tegan at reception was so lovely and helpful!
Powered site for one night and 2x people was $38 which was fair. The bathroom and showers were very clean and SO warm in the winter! A cute cafe inside that was neat and tidy and a recreation room as well. 9/10 because they're not certified for a dumping station which was needed. Otherwise close to town and all others kept to themselves. No trouble at all. I would recommend and stay again!
