Essentially a car park on the side of the road where the walk to the lake begins.
Very quiet, other than the sheep, and a great spot for the night as it was free. There really aren't many free camping options in Wanaka. We were here in April and it did get cold during the night.

Exactly what you would expect from a Top 10 site.
Near to the Shotover River, with awesome facilities especially the new showers... so clean!!
Thank you for your comments. I'm pleased that you liked our clean facilities. The showers are brand new so i'm glad all our renovations are working.

Free camping with mountain views.
Essentially a car park on the side of the road but did the job for one night. It snowed on the mountains over night and boy did we feel the cold!!

A lovely campsite with a real "rainforest" feel.

One of our favourite sites during our trip.
We had such a great view of the lake, plus the guys who run it give great info about seeing the southern lights, etc. Wifi and facilities are good, it's a really quiet spot but slightly out of the way if you want to walk into the town.

Our favourite powered site during our trip, mainly due to the outstanding views of Lake Tekapo.
The facilities were awesome, and it's only a few minutes walk to the Tekapo hot springs. Wifi isn't free if you're camping, but is if you're staying in one of their cabins. They also have bikes and DVDs to hire.
Great spot, especially when you're greeted by the two friendly bulldogs at the door :)

A beautiful location, and close to the boat terminal for Milford cruises.
The facilities were excellent and it was quiet. Wifi is hella expensive - $10 for 100mb so we didn't bother. This is the only place you can camp in Milford sound as far as I know.

$26 for 2 for one night in our camper, which is a bit steep for what you get which is basically nothing.
We didn't use the toilet, and there wasn't really any sheltered spots that were tucked away to park. There aren't many options in Queenstown for cheap camping so this was a last resort for us.
