Lovely area.
Lots of trees with the open vista to a view across the Canterbury Plains. There were very strong winds with gale force gusts the weekend I stayed, however the campground is quite sheltered so they weren’t a problem. Great walks and fantastic that I could bring my dog. Top notch basic DOC campsite.

Very rude, aggressive and angry owner.
Not dog friendly. My daughter and I booked for 5 nights with our two dogs. At time of booking asked for site away from facilities and not near throughfare. Given a Site next to entrance road, toilet block and main throughfare to the beach! Dogs were unsettled, barking due to foot traffic through our site, remote control cars running through site. They barked no more than 5 minutes each time. On two different days of the 4 we stayed the owner asked us to stop them barking. We immediately quieted them down quickly (1min at most). Note the barking was under 5 mins when he came over and it was always daytime. At least one of us was with them always. They were NEVER off lead. We and dogs were gone most of each day and were in bed by 8:30pm each night QUIET! We were never informed of any complaints from fellow campers. On our last evening having arrived back to camp about 5:30pm from all day trip (with dogs) we where standing on the road chatting with some campers (they were petting the dogs) when the dogs barked. Owner appeared & angrily, in front of everyone, said “Silence those dogs, or you can leave. In fact leave now. Pack up and go now”. I was embarrassed and humiliated. He could have come and discussed this privately at our site. As we packed up several campers came to express their concern about where we would go and that they felt it was unfair and the dogs had been no bother. There was a big very loud music party one night, allowed to continue until after 2:30am - pity the owner was less inclined to remove this source of noise! Finally Owner made my daughter cry when she went to collect her cellphone from him after it was found and handed in. He insinuated the phone was not hers, that he’d called the police! We left, I was too scared & upset to ask for a refund for the last day & none was offered. We are quiet & respectful people, I have been camping for more than 48 years and never experienced anyone like this before.
Your dog bit the the elderly gentleman standing beside you in driveway that is why you were asked to remove the dog After you left the site beside you complained about your dogs around their children .This is the first time I have asked a dog to be removed and at this stage will not be allowing them over Christmas again. And yes police were called on behalf of the gentleman re the bite .
We are a family friendly motor camp if there is an issue with anything speak to us

Lovely spot.
We arrived late at night and in torrential rain. Too wet to tent as planned with the area hit by the edges of Cyclone Cook. Our hosts went out of their way to sort us into a cabin overnight. Cabin was warm and clean. A fire was burning in the common area, and we were welcomed with a little basket of fresh, warm muffins. Will definitely be back to stay longer, in our tents and the sunshine!
Hi Jo,
Our apologies for the late response to your review. We are sorry that you had to endure cyclonic conditions while you were here...we certainly did get some serious rain! We'd love to see you if you are back this way as then you can experience the farm and bush walk and can really enjoy the surrounding area.
We hope you managed to find some sunshine and that you enjoyed the rest of your holiday. Kind Regards, Barbara and Chris
