Stayed here on a very rainy day which may have influenced the rating.
Cafe turned out to be closed (we stayed early April, so it may only run during summer), and one guy sleeping in his car came across a little sketchy. However: heaps of other campervans parked too, and the toilets were very clean! On a sunny day would probably be busier, as during big pouring down already had a little crowd. View of the lake is gorgeous and when weather (and season) allow you can rent kayaks to go on the lake which is awesome! Only downside: no shower facilities.

Spot was overrun by drunk locals in really shabby cars.
Did NOT feel safe at all. Would be a good spot without them. Parking lot right next to this one is for self-contained vehicles, that one seemed a whole lot safer. Ended up going somewhere else last minute due to non-self contained vehicle and unsafe feeling. Bummer!

Great location with tons of little walks.
There's a short hike with glowworms on the campgrounds, as well as some beautiful waterfalls to look at. We deducted half a point since it was quite busy, and another half point for cleanliness (showers and toilets were suffering from some moulding and weren't the cleanest); would however totally recommend this place as it felt very safe, and location makes up for the cleanliness of the shower&restrooms.

super friendly owner.
Laid back and chatted a little bit with us to get us familiar with NZ, as it was our first camping to stay. Felt super safe! Not many spots, but also very quiet, so more then enough room. Surroundings are GORGEOUS!! Great location and campground, would strongly recommend and would definitely stay again!
