Nice location, long peninsula, water on both sides of the campground, great facilities and shelter, 'real toilets', some people were collecting seafood for dinner.

Glowworms and Wallabies.
A community run DOC campground very close to Rotorua, but a completely different world. Was very full with locals on Waitangi Day, but very peaceful the following days. The volunteers provide you with great information about the region, the glowworm cave, the wallabies that surprised us. They are just making the hiking trail wheelchair accessible! Very clean toilets. Tent 2m from the beach. One of our top 3 campgrounds in New Zealand.

A jewel!
So peaceful. All kiwi families with their huge cars and tents were in the back part of the large area where the toilets ands sinks are. If you don't mind walking 100m to the droptoilet you can tent in the middle section directly by the lake and have the feeling that you are all by yourself. Swimming, no pollution and cool warden.

If you come with a tent, get there early.
Three nice covered places under the trees. There is a table and benches too. Wild flowers and river are beautiful. There is more space for camper vans. We went to the earliest Milford cruise from there.

The most picturesque campsite during our great walk.
There were just 2 other tents that we did not see from our spit. Just a stair down to the beach. Wekas walking around. Dolphins in the bay in the evening!

This was the very first campground we tented at in New Zealand.
It was freezing cold in early January, the snow nearly fell all the way down to the lake. But the scenery with the white peaks and the lake with the blue ducks was just amazing. The toilet was fine. Free DOC site, very cool.

Of course the best place to stay to visit hot water beach.
Shovels to rent for 5NZD. Loved the showers especially after having been to the beach at night. The huts seem very nice, but the tenting area that we stayed on was just squeezed in. No free wifi.

The campground with the best facilities we have had during our 2 months tenting.
Very clean, spacious kitchen and living room area to hang out, plus outside but sheltered bbq area. Unlimited wifi! Top quality mountain bike rental from the reception.

Very cool bbq area with view over the lake, very nice tenting locations with the best views.
Kitchen and table area too small for such a big campground, especially if it rains.

Good facilities but the worst place along the track regarding mosquitos and sandflies!
Depending on the tide you have to wait very long to cross the water the next day.

No charm and no shade.
Facilities are all good, kitchen is very large, but was stinky from burnt things and fish from other guests, 'cinema' and game room ok, but the campground just didn't have any charm. Fenced all around, no trees. It's just two roads parallel to the beach road with one van/tent after the next.

For us this was the last stop on the coastal walk.
Therefore we really enjoyed the proximity to the huge beach and even more the good facilities and showers before taking the taxi boat that departs just in front of the campground. Large grass area, not many people in the DOC sector. Not much shade.

We got to Hall Arm with a kayaking tour of 'Go Orange'.
The place is sheltered and hidden in the bush. There is a drop toilet. A river to get fresh water from. The tour company has put up a mosquito tent with place for 8 pax to be safe from the sandflies. The only annoying thing there. Scenery unbeatable.

Was perfect for one night after a long day on the road.
And much cheaper than the other Napier campground. Toilets and showers very clean. Music in the facilities. Kind owners. Playgrounds for kids. Plenty of space. Wouldn't want to stay there several days as it is right beside the airport and the beach is not the nicest.

Best choice ever to drive all the way up there.
Stayed for 2 nights, in a tent right by the shore. Very large area with very few people. Some kiwis that come here every year for several weeks. Top facilities. Shelter, sinks with water, bbq area, showers. Very cool warden that gives you advice about hikes and weather forecasts. The beach at low tide is a perfect place to play frisbee et cetera.
