Opposite the lake.
Non powered sites are free range. So you get to choose your own area. Powered sites were large. Showers & toilets are new and very clean. Shower were hot and powerful. Made two teenage girls happy as they could wash their hair.
Reception staff very friendly and helpful. $66 for 2A 2C. Note from Te Anau allow at least 3 hrs to get to Milford Sound in a motor home. Take your time some beautiful site seeing on the way. Pull over and let coaches and cars pass you.

Very small site with maximum of about 10 campers.
Great location right in the river edge, short walk to town. Magical views. Get there early to secure your stop.
There are other freedom camping options in town. This is a small town obviously encouraging freedom camping, so respect their right to restrict the locations.

Location, location, location.
Unfortunately the park needs to spend some $, on the grounds and facilities. But where else are you going to stay in Lake Tekapo... and they know it.
Very popular camp grounds for all styles. Shower/toilets dated but clean.

Well worth the 10 minute diversion off the main road.
Lots & lots of seals sunbathing on the rocks.

Stopped over very late on way from Milford Sound to Dunedin.
Very close to town so some road noise until midnight. Also heard two trains pass in the night, but not particularly loud. 500m from
McDonalds so convenient for a early morning coffee.
Nice park land with trees and grass and a well equipped play park if you have young ones. Public toilets in park are dated but clean - no shower. Opposite residential houses so we were mindful of arriving late and keeping quite. I love that this community has allowed a free camping area in town. Well Done Gore.
