$13pp per night is good value for money if you ask me, at this beautiful spot!
We lucked out with amazing weather for three days here and met some pretty great people, so we had a wicked good time! Bookings required in the busy season between Christmas and the first two weeks of January, Niki told us it had been chock-full until the night before we arrived as all the Aucklanders had just gone back to work. The campsite manager Niki is a real character! She's lovely. She lent us a spade for hot water beach, and charged our phones for $1 each. Free BBQ's and cold showers; $2 for a 5-minute hot shower, but you don't even need it coz the river is so beautiful and really warm in summer! There's an abundance of great swimming holes in the crystal clear river, all the way up to the waterfall; two waterfalls with a swimming hole in the middle that the more adventurous types can climb down a "goat track" to access from above... but there are plenty of good easy-access swimming spots as well. Oh and make sure you check out the glow work cave!!! It's about a ten-minute walk up the back of the campsite; just past the first swimming hole; it's magical at night time!
Bring something nice with you to give Niki, and say "Hi" from Tim from Shannon! Then I'll get heaps of favour next time I go camping there!!!! I'll definitely be back!! =p
