Very large grassy, sandy area with lots of trees!
Pick a sunny or shaded place. Toilets. Honesty box ($5) by toilets or pay the lady in the caravan at the far end. Run by the council who take care of the place! Thumbs up! Thanks! We stayed in January.

Pretty basic, parking for powered sites is basically a gravel parking lot.
Good kitchen with lounge and wood fire. Bathrooms cold.

One of our favourite campsites, cool concept!
Great bar/restaurant with wood fire. Check out specials! Spaces quite tight but private. Friendly staff. Great base for the glaciers. Only negative: the bathrooms should be checked/cleaned twice a day as there are a lot of people using them! We stayed in January.
South Island ▷ Fiordland ▷ Te Anau ▷
4.5/5
Our most expensive campsite of the holiday at $48 for 2 adults powered site.
However it was worth it, large allocated space, very clean and tidy, good laundry (extra), large kitchen with constant hot water boiler, heated shower/toilet facilities. We also had a great view over Te Anau lake. Short walk into town. We stayed in January.

We loved this spot, one of our favourites from our trip.
Drive up & down the road from the turn off to the power station to find your perfect spot. We had a great place with fantastic views over Lake Pukaki to Mount Cook! Very quiet, can be windy but oh soooo lovely!!

Friendly welcome, would be a very cool budget campsite but all the facilities are very old & quite run down.
Needs a little tender love & then would be great! Good for exploring Waipara wine region.

Very friendly welcome & lots of local info.
Scotts brewery almost next door, good beer & yummy fries. View to the harbour, updated shower/wc block - all clean. Dump station. Wait til late to see penguins coming in to nest for the night & listen to their calls! Great experience! Very central to visit Oamaru - a very quirky town.
Thanks so much!! Scottie and Dee

Lucky to get a powered site here (booked the day before).
Good base for exploring Tongariro Nat Park. Nice walks can be done directly from Whakapapa village. But you need to get the shuttle $30 pp return for the Alpine Crossing. Wifi, toilets, shower, (laundry extra), kitchen & bbq. Cost for 2 adults/camper $44, which was ok. The resort needs a little more love....
We stayed in December.

Big car park at Marina, very full with campers coming & going constantly (approx 40 when we stayed).
Has a dump station. If its windy be prepared to be shaken in your van. Good to use if catching the ferry early & even as a base to walk into very windy Wellington for the day (1 hour via Evans & Oriental Parade). There is a bus running Mon-Fri too. Toilet.

Stayed in December, middle of Wanganui, on the RSA car park.
We were lucky to get a power socket (one of two) - offered free by the RSA club! Thanks so much! Go & check your parked ok, have a drink and/or dinner there, say hi to Keely - everyone was very friendly. Wanganui was quite a cool town.

Toilets & rubbish.
Lots of space behind the dunes, some with view over the sea. However very windy!! Weather changing every 5 minutes! Go to walk out to the very tiny Monkey Island at low-tide - beautiful views, but watch the tide, it changes very quickly!
