This place was fantastic!
We ended up staying a second night as one night just wasn't enough. Quiet and peaceful (except for boats at the boat ramp during the day) and right on the lakes edge. Good swimming spot at the north end- especially for kids.
Grass parking, toilets could do with an upgrade but as we were self contained this didn't bother us.
It's out of the way and there's no cellphone reception, but we loved it!

Well this was a surprise!
The carpark is small but quiet and surrounded by bush. You park on gravel and the amenities (toilet) are basic.
The ducks hang around to the point of annoyance BUT what we discovered is that there is a wonderful bush walk through Mt Lees Reserve which is just amazing! We did it with two young kids and they loved it!
We would never have known about this place - and just took a chance after seeing it on the Rankers app, but I'm so glad we did!

What a hidden gem!
This was a fantastic find. Huge grassy area right on the rivers edge with amazing views of the river and gorge and the two beautiful bridges. Peaceful and quiet (but cold in the morning!)
Probably not so good in the wet as apart from the roads, it's all grass, but we loved it. Would highly recommend!

Pretty good spot on the shores of Lake Taupo.
We went late December and it was very busy with not a lot of flat space left, and full of campervans but a lovely quiet spot none the less, with easy access to beach and the walkway around the lake.
