This is not in Murchison, so don't give up hope if you are coming from the west!
Friendly welcome, nice pitches with lovely views. Immaculate facilities. Not troubled by sandflies or wasps whilst we were there. A very relaxing experience.

Bus trips are not our thing but this was the only way to get up to the end of Farewell Spit.
And once you get off road it is great. The driver was very friendly and informative (although quite hard to hear at times). This is a strange and wonderful place and well worth a visit, with lots of interesting information about the lighthouse and its keepers. Coffee and buns were much appreciated, and there were good opportunities along the way to stop for photos, climb a sand dune, watch a seal etc.

Fabulous setting in a spacious parkland.
Generous pitches (but costs extra for lakeside - probably not worth it). Good shower block but draughty and not very fly proof. Very friendly reception staff. Good laundry. Take aways available in the village shop.

Friendly and helpful staff.
Good focus on safety, and short pre-kayaking training session helpful. Quite an experience but hard work on a windy day for 2 sixty-somethings. We didn't see a lot of wildlife, and had to paddle hard to keep up. The guide was very informative. Other members of the group were cycling or walking back, which we didn't see as an option on the website, so it pays to ask. You will be expected to help carry the kayaks back to the trailer.

Good site with excellent facilities - clean, modern showers and toilets and spacious kitchen.
Site laid out well and convenient for whale watching base and the town. Kaikoura is up and running and values your visit.

Quite a long way out of town, so quiet.
Site used by long term campers as well as tourists. Rather dated facilities but ok. Pitch on a slight slope. We didnt use it, but the childrens play area looked amazing!

Large site with spacious pitches, good clean facilities including excellent showers.
Close to the beach. Very quiet when we visited, so not sure what it would be like if busy. Good takeaway at the entrance.

Tucked away off the main road, this is like walking into Middle Earth!
Such a little gem, with strangely shaped rocks, lush vegetation and a surprise view half way round. Well worth a visit - we went in the morning and met nobody.

Small pitches, rather like a carpark, but good staging post on the route north.
Friendly staff, good kitchen. Facilities very nearly good but badly designed! The sink in the shower/toilet room was far too close to the toilet. The sinks in the toilet only rooms were too small to be of any use.
Hello Alan , great you had the opportunity to stay in Fox Glacier.

Extremely professional, well run, friendly business.
The commentary on the boat was informative and fun. The boat was great, getting you quickly to where the whales were sufacing. We saw 3 whales on the half-day trip. Booking in advance essential - there were people waiting for no-shows when we went. Do advise taking sea-sickness medication...

Friendly and helpful welcome, with lots of information.
The lady booked our kayaking trip for us. Powered pitches quite small. But the real complaint was with the facilities. For toilets: 1 male, 1 female, 1 disabled and 1 urinal. This was a big campsite and we quite often had to wait for a free toilet. Showers were similarly inadequate. There were no separate wash basins, so people were cleanng their teeth in the laundry sinks. With a second shower block this site would be transformed, as there were a large number of tent users who really needed good facilities.
Hi Alan, We are disappointed that you did not come and talk to us before posting your comments. Our powered sites are actually above the average size in NZ. We are not a big park: we believe we are actually the smallest holiday park or campsite by allowed number of guests and powered/tent sites in NZ. We limit our numbers to 80 people at any one time (and our motels and self contained Units have their own showers, toilets, kitchens, etc). Yes, we only have one access unisex facility, one female toilet, one male toilet and one urinal. We have the correct amount for our allowed guests on tent sites. As for the sinks in the laundry area, they are for brushing your teeth in. There is one main laundry sink which is right next to the washing machine, the other two sinks are for face washing and teeth brushing. There are also sinks in the toilet areas which people use to brush their teeth. We are a small privately owned park: we are not some big chain park and make no claim to be one. Those people preferring lots of showers and toilets can also expect lots of other people, i.e big parks= big amounts of people: this won't ever be happening here as we prefer to stay small and personal so that we can continue to give a friendly and helpful service. When the park is full, we stay up often until midnight each night to ensure that the facilities are kept in a clean and hygienic manner.

Quirky site, very variable pitches, so some would be rated much higher than others for space, view etc.
Access to estuary and beach with lots of seals lying around. Expensive showers at 2$.

Friendly.
Tiny pitches, but once you were settled seemed ok due to hedges etc. Exceptional toilet and shower block and good kitchen facilities. Very expensive at 65 dollars for one night (motorhome for two people) but that is Queenstown. Convenient for supermarket, town etc but we couldn't wait to get back into quiet NZ!

Good to be able to pick your own pitch. Well protected from violent storm! Facilities ok, staff coped well when power went after the storm, heating up water for people.

Spacious, open feel to this site.
Pitches level and ok, facilities fine. Handy for walking to the shops.
Thanks for the review. We are glad you enjoyed your stay and found the location of the park handy to the shops.

A short walk through forest in a scenic reserve which is absolutely magical.
The vegetation is wonderful with lots of ferns and tree ferns, and even on a wet day were entranced. well worth a stop - it will only take less than half an hour.
