Very crowded down near the water.
We camped on the hill near the toilets and the view was stunning. We had the hill to ourselves as no one else could fit up there. Beautiful view of the lake with Mt Cook in the background. Toilets needed cleaning. There was no toilet paper so we ended up giving up a few rolls for the people who had walked all the way up the hill and needed it urgently!!

The drive to this place is stunning.
There are 3 different camping areas, all beautiful. The creek is absolutely stunning. Spotless drop toilets. It is a credit to the caretaker who you will meet when you arrive!

Initially was going to stay at Iveah Bay, but it was car park type camping.
So glad we drove the extra 30 odd kilometres. This place is so well maintained. Flushing toilets, wood supplied and beautiful walks. Unfortunately some people stayed without paying. Heaps of room for privacy. Definitely recommend, and if you have kids there is a fantasic play ground area. Support the community for this great place. Only $5 per person.

Very windy when we arrived.
Was really looking forward to this spot but on arrival found the free camping was in the car park. No privacy, so we decided to move on to Nelson Creek Camp Ground. See separate review.

Unfortunately it was extremely windy when we were there, but we could certainly see the potential.
Gets very crowded though. It was free with our DOCs camp pass, but normally $8 pp

Amazing entrance to this place.
It was raining and parts of the camp grounds were soft, and some people got stuck. Lovely lake. Magnificent sunrise.

Beautiful drive to this spot.
Lovely location, but unfortunately campervans can't camp as close to the river as tents can. Stunning river. Spotless drop toilets. Very crowded unfortunately, but we were there on a Friday night.

Very clean.
Great patio area over looking the creek. Good camp kitchen. Toilets were spotless. $44 night for two. Interesting 'glamping' ideas.

We had planned on staying here, but the rain arrived and we could see the river rising.
Was a lovely spot. Drop toilet. Only 2 other campers there.

Heaps of room here, with quite a few drop toilets spread about.
Nice and quiet. Normally $8 pp but as we had a DOCS camp pass, it was free. Would have given 10/10 if it had flushing toilets.

Clean toilets.
Car park type camping, but because it was cold and raining we were inside anyway. There is a less crowded self contained area further up the road, but no toilets.

Beautiful spot.
It was our last night on the South Island. Ranger comes around at night and first thing in the morning. Normally $8 pp but ours was Free with DOCs pass. Drop toilets, otherwise I would give it a 10.

Had planned on staying here with Free Camp Pass, but when we arrived it was car park camping only for campervans.
For this I only give it 7/10. Tents had stunning spots to camp right on the water. We went back to Boyds Beach Camp.

Even though the DOCs camp was Free with Camp Pass, we opted to pay the fee at this camp site.
The DOCs camp was 'car park' type camping for campervans. Boyds Park had heaps of room for privacy and flush toilets. The sunrise is spectacular. The lovely lady collecting money in the morning was an added bonus with her wealth of knowledge on the area.

The service was extremely friendly.
The only reason I didn't give it 10/10 was because the car wasn't ready at 8.30am. We had to wait till about 1pm which put us half a day behind. In saying that, they gave us a courtesy car in Christchurch and 1/2 day refund, so can't get better than that. Will definately use them again.

This place is stunningly beautiful.
We saw the Gorge on a drizzly overcast horrible day, and it was amazing. Can only imagine what it looks like on a sunny day. Our favourite place in all of New Zealand.

We went way out of our way to stay here.
Unfortunately the best spots were closed as they were clearing the trees. Beautiful spot, but hard to enjoy because of the sandflies, even though we were well prepared for them. There are two very mountainous hills to travel to get here. Views were amazing on the drive.

Lovely camp ground.
Very big with heaps of secluded camping areas, hidden away. Drop toilets in each of the different areas. Free with Camp Pass. Very well kept. Would have loved to stayed longer and do some of the walks, but we were limited with time.
