Only ranking it 9/10 because the toilets weren't very good.
But the campsite was beautiful and very roomy. Right on the waters edge with lots of space, beautiful swimming spot and lots of ducklings running around!

The drop loo was very smelly and gross and sand flies very annoying but at least it was free!

A lovely waterfront overnight spot but dirty public toilets and super busy!!
We stayed here before doing the Tongariro Alpine Crossing - apparently everyone else had the same idea. We encountered some people that tried to bags some parking spots for their friends which was very frustrating as people had to find alternative places. We counted 19 vans in total after about 10pm!!

Such a great place!
The kitchen dining and lounge area was clean modern and very well equipped and reception were friendly. The showers were 50 cents for 7 minutes of hot water which was plenty! The great thing was powered and unpowered sites were the same price. Would definitely stay again.

Really beautiful place but only 9/10 because of the highway noise.
Powered sites right on the lake edge, reasonable prices, awesome staff and clean, well maintained facilities. Would definitely come here again and have another beautiful lake swim!!
Thanks for the amazing review Rhea. Our lakeside sites get some road noise but the views are amazing! For light sleepers we recommend one of our hillside sites which are back from the road but many of which still look down over the lake.

Really pretty DOC campground but the drop loo was terrible.
There was also a cat (from a caravan) that kept trying to get or food! Also a few sand flies, but the stunning waterhole made up for it all.

It was handy after coming in after a late ferry crossing.
The sites were nice and grassy but the amenities were dated and needed a good clean.

Nice place right near the ocean.
The spa was lovely and the kitchen communal area was clean and well equipped. The owners were so friendly and full of advice.
