New management - currently closed (Oct 2016).
Check their website before coming here. Once running, this flying fox is not to be missed by young or young-in-heart alike. Never seen anything this crazy in the world - the infrastructure of this setup is something to be seen. We came here anyway to stay at the DoC site nearby.

Beautiful location, and great facilities.
Very quiet in October. Gate closes at dusk. Not a second later - as we've discovered! Rivendell from Lord of the Rings is within walkable distance. Lots of geocaches around here, must come back again for a longer stay. A++++

Basic serviced campground.
Owners are super helpful. Camp is tired - but very functional in a great location. Lots of space for everyone, and plenty of (very basic) cabins available.
Thanks for your feedback. We are slowly giving the park a facelift

The park itself is a magic spot.
The self-contained overnight space is in the carpark before the front gate - thus quite close to the road. It was relatively flat. The park gate wasn't closed overnight. We stayed there on Tuesday night, so it was quiet - but I would imagine it could get busy with undesirables during weekends.

Very nice spot - right by the river.
A good 25 minutes walk to the beach. We spotted whales from the top of the cliff nearby. We had a very relaxed 1 night stay here. The sites are rather small, we ended up parking our large camper over two sites, but it was very quiet in October, so no problem. No cellphone coverage at the site.

Stayed here one night in a large campervan.
It's the quietest campsite we've stayed at. Plenty of space, only one other vehicle in middle of October. The grass hasn't been mowed for months, but that wasn't a big problem. Spotted a composting toilet surrounded by very overgrown grass, but we didn't use it. Access is a bit muddy, so it could get impossible to drive in after wet weather. WARNING: extremely steep cliffs are nearby, and while there's good amount of fencing, kids must be supervised. The Mokai Gravity Canyon on the opposite side of the road is currently closed - change of management apparently. Check their website if you're coming here to do the insane flying fox, as it's a bit remote.
