We had a lot of wet weather when we were here which didn't allow us to enjoy this campsite fully.
But it has a great beach! The camping area was nicely maintained and there were some places to get out of the wind. There is a permanent camp host who can also give information about the walks and area.

Very happy with all aspects of this company.
We thought the van was a well-priced and the company gave us a great deal! The van was well equipped and everything clean. The Spaceship is not spacious, and the bed a bit hard, but these are minor issues for what you get. The ability to open the back and use the tarp to create extra sleeping space was a bonus, especially as it made it cooler with more air-flow on warmer nights. Mechanically the van ran beautifully and was easy to drive. We were well looked after by the Christchurch office on pick-up despite the fact that they were very busy. All communications with the company were straightforward and pleasant.
A particularly nice aspect is that all the vans were named, which just added to the fun.
The only other thing to add is that our Beta 2S differed in some aspects to the photos on the website in terms of not having the place on the side to put a stove, and the fridge being harder to open. But we would happily hire from this company again.

The beach here was magnificent and deserves a 10/10.
There is a lot of room for camping but we found it a bit too open and busy. A lot of people meant that the toilets were less than clean.

We really liked having the camp pass as it saved the hassle and worry of needing correct cash.
It also noticeably saves money.
The one issue we had is that in Kidds Bush we expected to be able to use it we couldn't. It seems that rules can change quickly for the DOC places that are administered or shared with private or community. Even the woman we spoke to in one of the DOC offices was confused, and thought we should have been ok.
So yes, it's a lovely camp ground. But if you have the Campsite Pass, you may end up like us at Lake Wanaka instead. Which was beautiful!
