An good hike to the top of 1500m+ Mt Roy where your views get wider and wider until you reach the saddle and your view doubles again as Mt Aspiring comes into view.

Extremely beautiful.
Hot, steaming, strangely colored pools and streams surrounded by fantastic regenerating forest. Thermal wonders without to much barren 'moon landscape'.

This hike is pretty intensive with lots of ups and downs.
The views are absolutely brilliant though and there's nothing quite like having 2 volcanoes loom over you. Wait for a good day and it's very, very worth it.

A short hike (2.5 hrs return) up to the summit of Mt Rainbow.
Lovely views + start and finish is right next to the highway - easy access.

Very close to the city centre and it's not too big.
Sites are pretty close to each other but the facilities are good. The place could do with some extra hand basins!
Thanks for taking the time to make a review. We appreciate all feedback and thank your for coming to visit Rotorua. We will hopefully see you return in the future :)
Thanks

Lovely setting, but the unpowered sites are a fair walk from the facilities.
They seem to be building new toilets and showrs so this may get better.

Drives like a car, not a campervan, so it fits everywhere.
Everything you need for camping is in it and the idea is just 100% cool :)

These guys manage to the cheery and helpful at 6.30am in the morning and never looked cross at us when we arrived late at the destination carpark.

Great twilight tour to the massive kauri trees in Waipoua Kauri forest.
Greeting these huge trees with maori chants seems like the exact right thing to do somehow at the time of day.

If you have to choose between the neighboring Te Puia and this then go here.
You'll get closer to the local people and the concert they do is less crowded, but seemed more real.

Sweet and small camping ground with great views and lovely sitting room.
