A beautiful setting, alongside a manuka and rata bush on one side and farm land with cows and sheep on the other side.
plenty of grass for kids to run around and play on.
stayed with kids in a motorhome/bus and tent jan 2011.
beautiful river, small swimming holes for a safe dip in the refreshing water. kids enjoyed making dams and catching cockabillies.
nice doc camping ground with small fee. clean toilets and water that needs boiling.

my boys had their combined 9th and 11th birthday party here.
I must say I wish I could hold the boys attention the way the the guy there did. He was very knowledgable and patient with the kids many questions.
When we arrived they were given army helmets to wear and were then shown around and inside about half a dozen army vehicles with the level of information given being just right for their age.
The highlight of the visit was a ride in one of the vehicles with each child having a turn at being commander and standing behind the driver so they got a good view. .
Afterwards they had time for a play inside two of the large tanks moving the (unarmed) gun barrells around and climbing in and around the tanks.
The kids were all very happy at the end.

Nice short bush walk of about 20 minute loop.
On the road down to pigeon bay.
Great for the wee kids especially for something to do on a drizzly day as the tree canopy makes it nice and sheltered.
Most interesting was some large toadstools. Some of the plants are labelled which is good and beware the native stinging nettle
