Campers have to park at the northern end and we were the only camper.
We got there about 4pm and there were a lot of surfers parked at the other end. A fantastic location on the ocean but we were woken a few times during the night by trucks speeding down the nearby highway.

We were there in September and the only van parked there.
A fantastic place to park although there were a few animal noises in the night. There is a very small drop dunny that wasn't very clean but that is why you have a self contained van.

Being a point there was water around 3 sides of us.
There was one other van parked but room for a least 10 if needed. The toilets seemed clean enough. Very handy to town.

This was a great location with the sound of the ocean crashing at your back door.

This was the pick for me.
It was just after big storms in Wellington and the sea was monsterous. The van shook all night with the wind but that just added to the excitement. A very scenic winding road to take you out there. Council security did come and check compliance stickers on vehicles and sent a couple of vans off. A great spot.

I thought this was a fantastic spot parked at the edge of the snow right next to the toilets with a fantastic walking track.
But, the down side. My wife didn't feel safe as although it was only a Monday night the hoons were there at 2am using the car park as a race track. It was so bad I rang the police but was told there was no 24 hr police and they would have to call someone out. Police never arrived and various car loads of hoons came during the night. It was a shame as it was a fantastic location.

We stayed here on a Wednesday night after doing the Hobbiton tour.
We got there about 5pm and there were already 11 other campers. Even so, room for another 20 vans without feeling cramped. We reversed right up to the lake. All grass parking but very nice. Recommended.

Very friendly staff who were only too happy to help.
2 power sockets available so get in early. Best scotch fillet for $22 I've ever had. Would have been a 10 but we stayed there on a Saturday night and the hoons were out. It was a car park and we were grateful of the free power.

This is a very quiet spot on the lake with a boat ramp.
Self contained only as there are no amenities. We did go to the facility at the southern end of the lake and it was full of mainly cheap non self contained campers that looked like backpackers. Not our style.
