This is a lively spot but very hard to find at night so arrive early.
After looking around it is much bigger than you first think. We wish we had arrived earlier to make use of fire pits / bbq stands. After turning off the road by the sign keep to the left of Ruatiti Cottage, (in the dark it looks like a private road) then through the cattle gate, head straight on down the track for about 200 metres till the open camp ground appears before you. Flush toilets and water supply, drinkable ?? Boil it first. Worth the drive from the main road with good views to enjoy on the way.

This has got to be one of the best kept freedom camp sites in the whole of NZ.
Beautiful spot beside a clean fresh river which I would have swam in had it not been mid winter. Some road noise, but woke to songs of black birds, and bush robins. We were the only one here at the end of August. PLEASE PLEASE keep this place tidy for others to enjoy. There are about 6 pitches some are a little sloping.

Idilic spot right next to the river.
Good hard stand for at least 30 camper vans but no one else here in August. Very basic toilets but so what. Remote and quiet. Top marks from me.
