Only five minutes from the Rotorua City Centre you can visit the largest geyser in the Southern Hemisphere.
The rest of the geothermal valley is full of natural wonders and Maori Culture. A bit expensive though.

This hiking track is just perfect!
On your 5-6km return track you will see turquoise volcanic lakes, the impressive snow covered Mt Ruapehu and the great views of the Tongariro National Park - excellent alternative to the famous Alpine Crossing track.
