Unfortunately we timed our visit with a long weekend so it's busy with lots of people and dogs.
Ground is muddy and even in a van difficult to find somewhere safe to park where we won't get bogged. Not good for tents either I imagine. Facilities old and dated and seem grimy. I had higher expectations reading the other reviews so I am disappointed. Or maybe I was just spoilt by McLaren Falls last night with brilliant facilities.

Great to see projects like his happening, and largely we paid our admission fee to support it.
The walks were good for plant info but bird life was pretty hard to find. I think the forest is quite mature so the birds enjoy being up high in the canopy and hard to see. My comparison is the Orokonui Eco Sanctuary near Dunedin which is a similar predator proof fenced area which seemed better set up for visitors, great interpretation info, cafe, shop - better graded tracks and lots of bird life too!
