Free overnight parking between signs facing Danby Field on western side.
Clean but very busy toilets about 100 metres up the road near the children's playground. Take rubbish with you and keep this place tidy and clean. Reasonably close to a big shopping centre (about 400 metres). Surprisingly quite considering closeness to main road. Thanks to the local Thames Coromandel Council for providing us tourists with these facilities which hopefully generate some local business. Stayed 13 April 2016

Expensive and unsafe (obstacles) Park.
Gravel roads with pot holes are very dangerous, particularly at night in wet weather with NO LIGHTING!!!. Has a rough stony bank with tree roots sticking out on journey from toilet to powered site. No toilet paper in ladies toilet pm or am. Poor shower pressure but toilets and showers clean. Greatly overpriced but their excuse is near Wellington. Would not stay there again.

Yes, LOTS of dog owners/walkers!!!
Quiet spot except several cars come and go during all hours. Carpark spot but felt safe even though we were the only campers. Gets a 7 because of dog pooh up the far end so stay closer to the entry. No water, no toilets. Stayed 3 April 2016.

Pleasant Park but sites quite short if you had a medium+ caravan.
OK for our campervan. Pleasant reception from Brad and Clare who showed us to our site. Clean showers, toilets and facilities, and good laundry. Like many/most NZ caravan parks, they don't have a water tap on each site. A strange NZ custom?? Stayed 14 April 2016

Very nice Park right on the shores of Lake Rotorua.
Beautiful sunrises over the lake. Extremely nice and helpful staff. Thank you Pauline and Kenneth. Free WIFI and good hot free showers. Campervan was $30 for 2 adults for powered site on 7 April 2016. Recommend. (Not sure of the review above this - sounds like a different Park!!!)

A beautiful Holiday Park beside the inlet and close to the Treaty Grounds and shops.
Thank you Bruce for a great welcome - your facilities and grounds are spotless in every respect. Thanks for the FREE WIFI too!! We can highly recommend your Park. Stayed 15 April 2016

Great free camp spot.
Stayed 12 April 2016. Room for 4, yes, 4 vehicles between sign posts if others don't try to hog up space!!!!! Has clean serviced all night toilets, cold outside shower (for washing off sand and salt water) and tap with drinking water. Wonderful beach with lots of islands. Can walk to nearest island at low tide. Highly recommend for self contained vehicles only.

Very clean showers and toilets, kitchen and super lounge.
Thanks for the pre booking discount Sandy!! Very helpful staff. Stayed April 17th and would stay again. Would rate a 10 except for the terrible radio station running in the toilets. There are "older" people who sit in there!!

Pleasant spot beside Lake Taupo near the Coast Guard building.
Flush toilets, cold outside shower, dump point, water near dump point. Small area for about max 10 self contained vehicles so get in early. Beautiful sunrise and stacks of water birds. Thermal water at Lakes edge. Thermal pools in nearby village and hills to the west have continuously rising steam. Stayed 8 April 2016. Please keep the area clean otherwise it may be closed off.

Free spot for self contained vehicles beside the beautiful Waikato River.
Area used by the water ski club. Clean flush toilets but no drinking water. Large area can cater for about 15 to 20 campervans/motorhomes. Big thank you to the providers. Stayed 11 April 2016

What a great gesture from the Wanganui RSA Club in providing this free facility in their car park.
Thank you Kyle and your staff and members. We were warmly greeted by Club members (bloody Orstrailians - can't play Rugby!!) and staff when we stayed there on 9 April 2016. Great beer and wines served by absolutely superb hosts in Keely and Penny. The restaurant also had great value meals. Stay here and support this Club, you won't be disappointed. There are toilets down the street on right side opposite Farmers (near Observatory I think) about 1.5 blocks away. If you are Aussie, you may be able to coach them on how to bowl underarm at cricket!!!

A very neat and clean park.
The most friendliest and helpful staff you could ever meet - thank you Vanessa. This is a must stay venue for a visit to the Kauri Museum - the BEST MUSEUM WE HAVE EVER VISITED ANYWHERE!!! We thought a one day visit would do but NO, you need 2 days and this Park is the best place to stay in a little village with no shops or anything. Great views over the harbour too.
It was a pleasure having you to stay and we hope to see you back on day, regards Vanessa

Nice friendly staff and neat shower/toilet/kitchen block.
$1 per person for showers. It poured rain the night we stayed and the muddy unsealed road from the toilets/shower to the soggy grassed site was very unpleasant. Lighting to see where you were going was non existent. Still, nice clean facilities if these things were attended to/taken on board. Stayed 4 April.

Great spot!!
Poured rain while we were there but site did not become boggy. Flush toilets in day area well worth the walk to. Beautiful, serene area with the sound of the roaring ocean to rock you to sleep. Thanks DOCS for yet another great camp spot. Would rate 10 if drinking water was available.

This is a great FREE spot for a first or last night stay after picking up or before dropping off your van.
Free hot showers, clean toilets, drinking water and a dump point. We loved this spot. There are quite a few homeless people doing it tough living in their cars up past the pond. If you are dropping off un-needed food ect what a great place to show you care. Thank you Auckland City Council for such great facilities.

Good free camp spot close to the beach.
No sea lions spotted but the beach walk was great. Has flush toilets, drinking water but no showers, with a dump point across the road. Heaps of campers, about 60 vehicles, when we stayed put pressure on toilets and water tap. Info says only 37 campers and only 5 sites. That is wrong. Good spot prior to visiting Dunedin and beyond. Thanks to local Dunedin City Council, very much appreciated.

This spot had been devastated by a severe flood just prior to our visit in March 2016 so it was difficult to assess.
It would normally be a great free site beside a lovely running creek but the flooding filled the pit toilet which was unusable. Many sites were gouged out by the flood and Council was working to restore the road in and washouts. Would still recommend as the place would soon be repaired and is really a great spot to camp. Don't forget to visit the resurgent cave up the road where the river emerges from a cave in the mountains. Absolutely fascinating..

One of the best camp grounds in New Zealand (and we criss crossed both Islands over 6 weeks!!).
We had a powered site for 2 @ $20 which is great as there are hot showers ($1), clean drinking water, dump station, laundry, clean flush toilets, kitchen and lounge. The Tranzalpine train went past about 5.30 pm and it WASN'T noisy as some suggest. The cheery manager, Roy, will call and collect your fees. The grounds are flat and well grassed. Simply a great spot. Springfield has some great places to shop at too, and delicious pub meals, although a very small village. Thanks heaps to the Springfield Community. Can highly recommend.

Old and tied, grotty showers, small dog kennel sized expensive units, sewage smell near veranda, expensive for condition of accommodation.
If you take it away from proximity to airport you wouldn't stay here. Very friendly staff and good food recycle bin.
Hello Goldfinger - sorry to hear you did not enjoy your stay with us. Our smaller units are perfect for those who just want a bed for the night and for most of our guests they really enjoyed these unit. I'm sorry you did not enjoy your stay with us but perhaps for your next visit book one of our ensuite cabins or park motels which have all the necessities you may require.

Extremely friendly hosts.
Our campervan site was right beside the Creek and while it was a very wet night we enjoyed the facilities. Good laundry, adequate showers and toilets and great kitchen. This is a pleasant spot to stay when visiting the winery's in the area and also for the Inter-islander ferry to or from Wellington. We can highly recommend.

Great place to stay with a van, units or camping.
Lovely guy makes you feel welcome. Good kitchen. Single toilet and single shared showers which are adequate. Blown light in bathroom when we stayed made it difficult to shave. Sites a little side on but there is some wooden boards in a pile that you can use to level things up a bit. Recommend any day.

Nice spot next to Lake Wanaka.
Clean flushing toilets and plenty of sites. Bring insect spray (if you aren't a greeny) as the run way is too small for the sand flies to land. Yep, they bite. Thanks DOC

Nice spot near a beautiful stream.
We didn't know about the didymo algae and drank the water straight from the stream. Still here and didn't get sick!! No toilet paper but we had our own. Thanks DOCS.

For that you get a toilet and camp kitchen with only sinks. Nice sheltered wet grass sites. Catlins not worth the drive except for a few nice walks and the petrified forest at Curio Bay. Interesting museum just before Curio Bay.

Great camping spot and again thanks to DOCS.
We saw two guys with heaps of gold specs from the beautiful didymo infected creek, well done. Wekas are so cute - we saw chicks as well. Clean sites and good clean toilet. Just put on some insect repellent for the sand flies.

We stayed 2 nights over Easter and it was packed to the rafters.
Great toilet and shower facilities and extra $1 for a shower. Very friendly and helpful staff at reception. Nice sites with power and (shock!!) water at each site, not a usual NZ custom but normal overseas. Town has turned super hippy type and EXPENSIVE since we visited 20 years ago!! Same as Queenstown so do all your shopping before you arrive in these towns. We would stay here again as facilities were very good.

Very good car park stop over.
Nice clean toilets, water tap near sinks on platform and space for 30 plus vehicles. Stayed 2 non consecutive nights and highly recommend. There is free WIFI at the library steps, good shops including 4 Square Grocery and cafes, and petrol/diesel just up the road toward Te Anau. Power points have no power. Thanks to the local Council. The shops do well from this site!!

Would give 10/10 for cleanliness - the toilets and showers are the best we stayed at in 6 weeks in NZ - but the grumpy busy body lady at reception didn't want to know us.
No water tap near our site so we had to shift to top up camper with water. Spotless facilities but "don't touch" is the feeling we got. "Don't do this signs" adorn the walls like an art gallery. Man (presumably the owner) seen sneaking around facilities about 6 am checking that no one slept in the lounge room!! Real unfriendly experience in a place loaded with potential. Hope lady owner reads all these reviews and comes on and apologises. She should sell up as she has no idea of the hospitality industry. Otherwise our advice would be to stay elsewhere.
