Basic but well run camp, no broken appliances, weathered timbers, sticking doors etc.
Spacious grounds, clean toilets, showers, well equipped kitchen, kids playground, sheltered if you plan your parkup up. Friendly managers, tavern next block along if you feel like a meal out.

Standard Camping Ground, like you remember from the 1960/70.
Small but adequate facilities, a few showers, smallish kitchen etc.
Bring the kids bikes, cricket set & soccer balls and you wont see them for hours. No bouncing pillows, sandpits, jungle gyms and no Top10 extortionate pricing either.
Briefly, its clean, tidy, small and cheap.

Owners couldnt workout if a pet was allowed or not, half closed one ablution block, then reopened it and closed the other half?
Showers just trickle out hot water, if you want some force with it, it goes cold quickly. Faulty power points, needs finger board for signage and a few more paths. Nice spot though, 5min walk to town through bush track.
We would like to take this oportunity to apologise to all our guests who have been inconvienced by our ongoing hot water issues. We suffered a major failure as a result of the earthquakes, and in order to avoid a complete shutdown for a prolonged period repairs were made. These proved unsuccessful so a whole new system was installed, and we are pleased to report it is now up and running, so the recent lack of hot water supply and pressure is a thing of the past.
We thank you for your comments and assure you that issues raised in these reviews are acted upon in order to present the most enjoyable stay that we can
Sincerely,
R.Russell

Yes, you are parked close together but thats made up for by the proximity to central Greymouth, just two blocks away.
Challange service station below you so easy walk for papers, milk etc. Clean toilets & showers. Doesnt let under 40s in campervans stay, resident prefer the quiet life, gate chained close at 9pm
The comment on under 40s does not apply , Respectful visitors are welcome

Expensive for what you get, owners scrimp with maintenance, low wattage bulbs everywhere in large buildings so low light levels.
Gravel driveway sinking into mud.

A real gem, due to accessibility of a house with kitchen, bunkroom, showers, toilets, library, tv, plenty of room after being cooped up in MHome due to incessant rain.

The road in is a little tight in places, but the walking track to the Arch is great, the cave spectacular, highly recommended.

Frontier camp, run down, dark & grubby.
The place seems time warped in the 1970s, amenities are basic and not that clean, spiderwebs, non working lights, huts sitting on ground at all sorts of levels, a general sense of despair about the place.

Not that much room to park, plenty of firewood and right on lake shore, great views as well, toilet smelly, Kinloch Lodge just across the road, handy to Elfin Bay, Routburn and Lake Sylvan.
It rains a lot here, so be prepared, trees shelter NWesters, open to south.

Clean enough where it counts, shame about the rest of the place, run down grounds, overgrown vegetation, rooms with 2-3 paint schemes, permanent residents in rundown campsites, plenty of room though the
camp sites are smallish, a bit depressing really.

OK for what you pay.
The building and facilities are a little tired, reasonable sized kitchen, good showers but water pools on floor, free washing machine, toilet block a bit basic, power points limited to one small area. Close to town, lotsa of room for the kids to play but no playground. RTeasonably clean & tidy.

New caretakers have transformed it from dirty & dingy, to a destination worth staying at.
Its not Top10 quality, but has reasonable facilities, friendly owners, spacious grounds, reasonable pricing to, CASH Only though.

We stayed again, Dec 2010, what a change, new signage, clean facilities, happy staff, more gravel scattered here and there, Im re-rating this from a 2 to a 7, keep up the good work..
Jan 2009 - What a tip, go anywhere else.
There's acres of safe playing for the kids, the Lake at its doorstep with safe swimming bays to the side and the rowing course nextdoor. A 30min walk into Twizel passes the morning quite nicely. Showers are hot but fickle, everything works in the kitchen and washing machine have a reasonable charge.
But the buildings (except for the new Motels) haven't seen much improvment since they were built in the early 1980s, they are generally grubby, spiderwebed and roughly cleaned out, windows with months of accumulated flyspots, street lighting only half working, potholes get bigger every year, broken supports for watertaps, sun faded signposts etc. The camp shop doesnt cater for anything more than the peak holiday demands, ie no papers, milk from mid/late January.
Fat lazy owners who couldnt give a toss.
Only improvement I could detect for 2008 was free handwash dispenser in the tired shower blocks.
