Very large park but full of old permanent caravans with no distinct site markers.
Very old amenities. Big sign at entrance stated 'No lead, no dog' but there were dogs wandering about and leaving poo as they went. Just as well we had a fully self contained motor home.

Well maintained park.
Good views over lake. Great location. Easy and pretty walk along lake edge into town. Appreciated the heated amenities. Only downside was a luke warm shower the morning we left - not sure why as other times lovely hot showers.

Very warm welcome from the owner.
Very clean but older-style amenities and camp kitchen. Good central location. Parked between two wizz bang campervans which was annoying early morning. I think $37 for powered site for two people a bit overpriced compared to some of the more touristy sites.

Hello Nick, thank you for the opportunity to review our trip to NZ.
We had a wonderful time travelling up to Cape Reinga on the north island and down to Bluff on the south island and lots of places in between. Unfortunately we did not utilise the DOC campsites for overnight camping but we did manage to visit some DOC grounds during the day. Had our motorhome been equiped with a gas/electric refrigerator we would have camped overnight operating on gas. However, next time we will ensure that whatever motorhome we hire it is better equipped for freedom camping. Apart from that the Wendekreisen Motorhome, while an older model, served our needs adequately. Some suggested improvements: install a shower curtain to keep the toilet dry; lube the vehicle doors so they don't have to be slammed shut; supply an outdoor mat to clean shoes before going inside; a retractable awning would be great especially in wet weather.
