The best thing about this site is its location, being just outside the town centre, making it convenient to walk to the main attractions and restaurants.
The site itself is generally fine and has all the usual facilities which are clean, but the pitches and layout are tight, and the hot springs at the lakeside are not attractive and detract somewhat from the stay. In effect, there are better hot springs elsewhere that are worth visiting. Not cheap (46 dollars for a powered site) but to be expected at one of the country's tourist honey pots..... all leading to a failure to get max score.

Site good with the normal facilities that are clean.
This site is all about its location for the Tongariro Crossing and the shuttle direct from and to the campsite, which it excels in. Very friendly and helpful staff. The strange looking little cabins dotted around the site are the only thing that slightly detract from giving max score. The price is on the higher side but this has to be accepted and understood by visitors as the remoteness of the site must make it expensive to run and service. The on site restaurant is a surprising bonus, being quite good.

This was a surprising find, and a little gem.
In a clearing in a forest well away from all of the site's other users, so no noise. Good and clean flush toilets with basins. Handy for an en route stop for the Rotorua area, thus avoiding a potentially expensive stay at one of the sites in the town. Free!

Well located and very large site with long lake frontage.
Good for walks on lake edge and adjacent mountains. Facilities good, and clean. Overall, good value. Only slight detraction is the storage of older style caravans for locals who obviously keep them there all year around.

One of the best sites visited, and free!
Quiet, and had the place to ourselves. Public toilet (flushing) on site which is cleaned daily. Could be busier at weekends and in high season with boat launching by local fishermen, but this would add to the interest. Pleasant walk along estuary to spit at river mouth.

Great little site right in the village centre.
Facilities good, and clean. Well sited for the glaciers. Glow worm walk adjacent well worth a go. Good value, and left as very happy customers.
Pleased that you were able to visit the glow worms and that you enjoyed your visit to Fox

Typical largish family orientated holiday park with all the usual facilities and direct beach access.
Well located for coastal path and the 45 minute walk to Cathedral Cove. At upper end of price range (50 dollars a night for a powered pitch) but that appears to be the going rate in 2016 for good location and everything laid on. Gets busy in season and weekends, hence missing the max score.

Good for overnight stopover.
Friendly owner, facilities all there and are slightly of the rough and ready type, but totally functional and clean. Nice grassy pitches. Price at 36 dollars is about the right ball park figure.

Well situated for Wellington and most visitors will use this site as a base for visiting the city if they can't get in at the quayside campervan park.
20 minutes drive from the Interislander ferry when roads are quiet, but if catching the first ferry allow plenty of the time (at least an hour) as the road from within 300 metres of the campsite and the SH2 will be jammed up, and again in the vicinity of the ferry dock. Otherwise the site is fine (clean, pitches good size), but nothing special. Not a longer stay place. 50 dollars a night for a powered site, but to be expected close to Wellington.

Good site with terraces and lakeside views.
Facilities good and clean. Paid 42 dollars for a powered pitch which was fair at 2016 prices, but showers extra at 2 dollars a go was out of order (hence score of only 8) so on principle we used the campervan shower instead as there was still plenty of gas on board at the end of the holiday!

Great for an overnight stop and very close to the airport and campervan hire depots.
Surprisingly quiet with little aircraft or road noise. Easy to find. Good value.
Hi Peter - thank you for your review - great to hear you enjoyed your stay with us and hope to see you again.

The facilities are fine but the pitches are absolutely minute and crammed together to such a degree that it is almost impossible for the last few campervans (even of modest size) to manoeuvre into their
allocated space. It was also the most expensive site of our 24 day trip, being truly exploitative of their position of a location of high visitor attraction and few sites. We paid $54 for a powered site. Shame really for such a nice place generally.

This site was really good.
Huge pitches, and shady parts. Facilities worked and were clean. Well sited for coast path and kayak hire. Good value all round.

Great location, which is what this site is all about, and it's free.
The noise of the sea roaring is more noticeable than any trains going by.

Superb location.
Fantastic setting, and free. Can get busy but there is plenty of room for everyone. Best to go self contained as toilet looked dodgy.

Great stopover site.
Old but clean facilities that all work well. Quiet, as we shared the site with only 2 other punters. Some road noise, but nothing to get worried about. Owner friendly. Takes cash only. Good value.
Thank you for your review, and thanks for the kind words.

Fantastic site and even better location.
Idyllic. Good facilities, superb setting, great for Queen Charlotte track. Friendly and welcoming warden. Don't be put off by other reviews whinging about price and shower time limits. Folk need to get real. This is 2016 after all and this site would be difficult and expensive to service, being relatively remote.
