If you are interested in wild and untouched nature, this might be something for you.
To start the walk you have to drive down the Appletree Road for a few kilometres (really small and crazy street through the bush). Then it is a 1 to 2 hour walk through deep forest (you have to cross a river a few times) to get to the awesome small falls. Not many people have been here before.

An amazing tall waterfall just a few steps away from the carpark.
You can stand on several observation platforms (one directly above the waterfall) and even at the bottom of the falls.

On the Forgotten World Highway from Taumaranui to Stratford you can get a stamp for your passport ($2).
It is a really cool proof of your trip and also the small town you get it from is really recommendable.

A short day walk through fields to the Waitomo Caves.
You can look into some parts of the caves and even see glowworms in some tunnels at night. Do not miss walking back at sunset and watch a great evening countryside.

Do not miss these falls when staying in Rotorua.
At the end of the road, where the rafting ends, there is a rope that you can use to swing into the water and several platforms (up to 10 metres) from which you can jump into the river and flow with it for a while. A really great experience.
