A powered site for two people costs $39.
Five minutes of shower costs 60 cents. A large family-friendly campsite directly by the sea. Nevertheless, quiet and well-mannered. Enough showers and toilets are available. All clean. Average cost / benefit ratio.
Glad you enjoyed your stay with us

An unpowered site for two people costs $16.
There were also 50 cents for the refuse bag (obligatory). A very nice place with wonderful beach. Unfortunately, there are only tables, benches, two showers, toilets with flush and washbasin with water tap at the day use area (100m next door). Why this is missing at the campsite is haunting us. In contrast to the day visitors we pay something. For that we get only a plumps loo and foam ... Are you kidding me?
The DOC has many rules. E.g. Only 2-person tents are permitted (not bigger) and the motorhome location is precisely indicated. Unfortunately, the rules are not respected and the camp manager does not mind. Various large tents (4s and 6s tents, party tents) were placed in the motorhome area. From the Campervan you had hardly any view of the sea. Neither the separation of the tent site / motorhome nor the 2-person tent rule are observed or enforced here. Bad cost / benefit ratio.

Best free campsite.
Best cost / benefit ratio. Right by the river. Very nicely done with tables, benches and chairs. Any site with tap. Socket strips with free electricity to load devices. Unfortunately no free Wifi anymore (since in the past someone has downloaded over 2 TB). Too bad now only Pay-Wifi offered. 10 points would have been given if there would be free Wifi, but with volume restriction (e.g., 100MB / device).

A powered site for 2 people costs $36.
Family friendly campsite. For the greeting you get a muffin and food for the sheep and goats. Glowworms can be seen very close by. Unfortunately, only three showers which are a little shabby. Too little for all the families. Fortunately the toilets are separate. Mediocre cost / benefit ratio.
Thank you for your review Matthias and we are sorry that you had a mediocre experience. We note that when you stayed with us it was the very height of the Christmas/New Year holiday season and so we were at "No vacancy" with 80 people in the park (which is our limit). Yes, we only have three showers and three toilets plus a urinal: this is what we are required to have on a ratio to guests as at least 20 of the guests use their own showers and toilets in their self contained units or motels. The cost of $36 for two adults on a powered site has been the same since 2010 and is below the average cost in NZ (even for some DOC sites). We believe it is a fair and reasonable cost for what you get: power, hot and cold (safe to drink) water, rubbish disposal, waste water disposal, animals to feed, a walk to the glowworms, security, information about the local area and the rest of NZ and muffins, plus courteous, friendly service. We also try very hard to keep the facilities clean for all of our guests. We clean the main building in the morning, check it regularly through the day and clean it again at 11.30pm in the evening.

A beautiful farm where you can feed the alpacas. Quiet and with great views of the mountains. Everything in clean and good condition. Good cost / benefit ratio.

No soap in the toilets. Free wifi with very bad reception at the powered sites (clear focus on apartments). Everything old and dingy. Shower / WC with light timer: If you do not fast, dry in the dark ...

A powered site for 2 people costs $39.
Poor soil, partly without gravel. When it rains (does it often there) everything in the mud. Only three very narrow, grubby shower / toilets. In the morning you wait "hours" until you finally can make pee. Much too little since no separate toilets are available. Very bad cost / benefit ratio.
Hi
I am sorry you were disappointed in your stay.
As a result of guest feedback we spent a month planting more native bush around the site, that is now finished so there should be no mud and the sites are looking a lot nicer. We have one the highest (or the highest) ratios of bathrooms to guests in the town so I am sorry to hear you had to wait for the bathroom - these are cleaned three times per day and if they are dirty please feel free to inform us.
Our aim continues to be the cheapest powered sites, with free wifi and hot showers in Franz Josef and I am sorry we did not meet your expectations on this occasion.

A powered site for 2 people costs $40, unpowered $34.
In kitchen, bathroom and toilet only one sink. 2 showers for women, 2 for men. Virtually no storage space and few hoes. Everything old and dingy. Whole area with chicken and peacock. There was NO drinking water! Also there was no dump station. The owner said we should drain the greywater at the campsite in the lawn.

Showers, toilets were sufficiently available. All clean. There was free Wifi with limited to a few hundred MB. The campsite is divided on 2-3 levels. Accordingly you have to go down the stairs and go up to the kitchen / toilet / shower. Mediocre cost / benefit ratio.

Free, in the middle of the city and still quiet.
No toilets, no waste bins, no water. A car park, no campground. Very unloved. Over the whole night of various street lamps brightly lit. Who can sleep there?
I wonder what the authorities have considered here. In general, New Zealand seems to have a problem with toilets and trash cans. Before our New Zealand trip we traveled 2 months Australia. In the most deserted places there are nice, big toilets. Mostly with water, at least with foam. Waste bins are also available everywhere. Here you are mostly looking for both.

Very cheap campsite. Especially for the North Island. Unfortunately only one shower and two toilets. Everything basic and grubby. From the shower comes only a trickle. In the man's toilet the light is broken. There is no soap in the woman's toilet. Good cost / benefit ratio.
