This is by far the most modern, up to date and well laid out place we've stayed in all over NZ.
It's a beautiful gated resort at camping ground rates!!! $18.00 PP for a powered site (off season) also got us:-
Free unlimited hot showers!
Free unlimited WIFI (been fixed)!
Free SkyTV in lounge 24/7!
Free use of pools and hot tub until 9-00pm!
The pool complex would rate with the best in the Pacific Island Resorts!
We will definitely go back when in the area.

This place doesn't have a very good history; But the new owners have made heaps of improvements, and bent over backwards to make me feel welcome.
There is a new "Convenience Store" onsite which advertises "hot takeaways". Unlimited hot showers are included in the fee - $18 for one adult on powered site. Not a huge area, but can only get Wifi in the front motel units. - They will have Wifi right through the camp within a couple of months. Right next to a road, but very little traffic at night, so not really a problem. They have some (6?) caravans at the rear of the site with permanent, friendly tenants.

Rough gravel road, narrow in parts, to get there, but well worth it.
The scenery is really magic and on a still day the lake looks like a mirror. Only for self-contained though. No toilet, but can use water from lake. We stayed there three days - didn't want to leave!

Two sites are available.
The first one, immediately over the bridge from the DOC camp is just a flat, exposed, stony area about three metres above the lake, with a very steep access road. The second one is a short gravel access road, 150 metres south of the bridge, which gets you right onto the waters edge!!! This spot has far better views than the DOC site and parts of it (it's huge) are very protected. This is the site I rated 10!!! It is absolutely beautiful - we stayed there three nights, and others, who saw our motorhome from the road above, joined us.
