Great site.
Fab location. Lovely to have the glow worms. Lovely toilets and showers. Clean. Kitchens good. Only thing letting it down was the pitch sizes. You can end up very close to your neighbour and despite being in campervans I could still hear my neighbour snoring!!
Hello Jane, we're sorry that your sleep was disturbed by an extremely noisy snorer and you felt our pitch sizes are too small. We hope you enjoyed the rest of your holiday and you didn't experience this issue again, thanks for staying with us and all the best regards Toni

Very friendly lady running it.
Great kitchen but closing the kitchen at 9.30 means you can't make a hot drink before bed. The swimming hole was lovely but children do need supervising here. A great spot.
The utility was clean. Unfortunately it isn't very child friendly. The showers were one temperature which was hot - far too hot to get a child to stand under, and they are on a timer. You get your child clean / scaled then apply shampoo and shower gel only for them to turn off. They then refuse to turn back on again so you have to try and get yourself (soapy and naked) and your child into another shower just to finish off.
There are very few trees or shrubs so there is little shade. The site is on the road which you can hear but isn't too busy.
We were unlucky with thousands of bumble bees - not the sites fault they are prolific in the area for 6 weeks a year apparently. Felt like staying in a bee hive with all the buzzing!! - no reflection on the site at all they were everywhere. We stayed in February. Great site but the showers really let it down for me.

Good camp ground.
Staff friendly, great children's facilities and playground. A little cramped but then close to town. A good site.

Good sized pitches, great children's playing area, BBQ good, kitchen and washing up area great.
Both men and women's had a shower out of service and the women's could have done with a clean in the morning but otherwise a really great site. Much better than another site we looked at.
Hello Jane!
Thank you for your feedback, it is really important to us.
It is great to know you had a fantastic stay!

We stayed in a very basic cabin.
$90 for a cabin with a basic kitchen. It was mega basic and lacked anything modern. This would have been forgiven if we could have had any sleep at all. This site is right on the highway. Our cabin was about 3 metres from the highway and the logging lorries thunder past all night. They light the place up, the engine noise is deafening and the whole cabin shook. All night. I almost drove to the other end of the campground to sleep in the car but I couldn't because I had a child in the cabin.
The shower was hot and the utility block fine. I didn't try the thermal pools and the cold swimming pool was icy cold but enjoyed by my son. BBQ was very greasy but worked well.
This site would be better if you can guarantee to be away from the very busy very noisy road. I'm not sure I could get far enough away from it though!!

The check in man was friendly and helpful.
The site has an open outlook with a nice view. Hard to tell how cramped it would be when busy as it was quiet - and I suspect it would be quiet a lot of the time as out of town. It felt spacious. Facilities are old but serviceable. Cost us $32 plus $5 for a 4 year old. I was told there is a playground and he is allowed showers hence the extra charge. I was completely shocked by the playground. I gather there isn't health and safety in NZ as the playground should have been condemned - and I am not normally worried about these things. The trampoline had a hole in the middle big enough for my child to fall through and as it was dug in to the ground he would have ended up under the trampoline in undergrowth and whatever is down there. The slide is horrendous and I'm not sure whether it was roped off or just random material tying round the top. The tyres sunk into the ground were OK though. There are signs everywhere - don't do this and don't do that. It's worse than being back at school. To be fair most of the signs are stating what should be common courtesy - don't unplug the fridge, turn off the lights, etc but they are covering every wall!! Feels like you're being told off before you've moved! I assume they've had problems in the past. It is a quiet pleasant site, out of town which is pretty but not child friendly.
Thank you for the review. I am so sorry about the tramp mat having a hole in it, we weren't told, and as it was a newly fitted mat in early Dec by a person who supplies and fits trampoline mats, we had no idea of the slit down the middle. As to the slide. We are looking at getting a replacement as soon as it quietens down and we can get to Christchurch. As for the signs, yes they are annoying, but people will challenge us if they are not there, an example of that, is, you saw the size of the tramp mat. 2 adult men were jumping on it together. Obviously designed for children. The signs in the kitchen is another example of arrogance, quite often food is spoilt in the fridge and Freezer, when campers unplug every power point to charge their phones and laptops, then leave plugs out.
