Very beautiful track alternative to Routeburn, less people and less expensive, very diverse scenery.
Open land, valleys, rivers, alpine saddle to cross, snowy mountains, forest, walks over stones, roots, bridges. Downsides were the sandflies, and very long day with distances travelled.

Quiet and sheltered place to stay.
Great view of the lake, 2 hours to walk around, close to Arrowtown and Queenstown. Good hike trail and Shotover River. Nice for picnics too!

Good long walks, interesting (long) drive out there, take a picnic.
