We stopped for one night, not far from the road but little traffic at night.
Toilets ok but dirty, thanks to dirty people messing them up. Nice grassy areas, cool little walk among the ferns in the forest along the river, went for a dip too. Watch out as this area is sandfly infested. Amazing views.

We loved this place.
At first it looked like a refugee camp when we drove through, but right at the end (it's quite a big site) we found a large grassy area not too crowded. Nice people, nice view from the shore, toilets and cold showers, OK we were in the summer. The caretaker is a nice guy and does a good job, facilities are old but looked after and we paid $12 for 2 in a campervan.

Very nice campsite, modern facilities, great location right on the water, powered sites.
A shame we still had to pay for a hot shower, it seems that showers are a luxury in NZ. The camp kitchen is great too, unfortunately some campers left a mess behind. That was the best DOC campsite we found in NZ.

We just stopped for one night before heading back to Australia, this area is packed with backpackers.
A lot of these people seem to be staying there for a few weeks, the atmosphere seems good too. When we stayed the council turned the water off to the amenities for works, there were porta-loos and a hose for water supply, it felt like we were in a refugee camp.

Well this is a convenient camp site with all facilities.
There are several residents, a lot of young Europeans who aren't very friendly and leave the kitchen camp and the amenities a mess.

Big camping ground, lots of attractions for kids, river and swimming hole.
A bit pricey though, $46 for 2 in a campervan. The facilities are very clean and looked after, the owners go out of their way to create a kids fun park there.
