The campsite is lovely and in a good location near Russell.
The facilities are very good and it's a nice and quiet place, except the chicken and weka's :-). We tried to spot some Kiwi at night but the best place to spot them was a fireplace with noisy people. So the Kiwi stayed away. Overall highly recommended.

The campsite is expensive and you could better describe it as a carpark, but it's all about location.
It's very convenient for a night out in town. The guy at the reception was very flexible with the checkout time since we wanted to visit Te Papa museum in the morning. A good place to stay for a short Wellington visit.

This is a very beautiful campsite.
Come a bit early for a nice spot directly on the lake since it got very busy at the end of the day. We had a lovely afternoon swimming and relaxing. The basic public toilet is a long walk but was clean and not smelly.

It's a nice campground on a great location near the beach and walking distance to town.
We got a spot near the beach. The view was nice except for the fence. Amenities are clean though a little outdated. The staff is very friendly and helpful.

It's a perfect spot for the Alpine Crossing since they have their own shuttle service.
The staff are very helpful. Facilities are dated but clean. The campsite has amazing views of the mountain and volcano.

The campsite is situated in a great location with nice sea views and near wine estates.
We had a great lunch at Clearview Estate. Although the wind was very strong there we enough spaces with some shelter. It's a good overnight place for the Cape Kidnapper hike.

The manager is very friendly and helpful. He gave us some good tips about what to do. The area is absolutely beautiful. Highly recommended.

We stayed 3 nights at the end of December 2015.
We agree that the campsite lacks character. It's big with no trees or shade, but the location is excellent, walking distance from the very nice little town. The facilities could have been cleaned more often.

It's a very beautiful site on a great location.
It is not big so at the end of day it gets very busy with backpackers. Come early for the best spots. In the 'day' area you can find flush toilets. It's worth the walk.

The location of the site is very nice and it's a very relaxed place.
As noted in other reviews showering is a hassle but since they rely on watertanks it's understandable, though other solutions are workable. It's a nice spot to start or end your holiday in NZ.

We loved this campsite.
It's very big but they offer of a lot of spaces with privacy. The facilities are very nice and clean. We camped near the dunes and the beach. The beach is gorgeous and quiet, although it was high season.

It's not the prettiest site and not best location, near a busy road, but very convenient.
We chose this campsite for the facilities. They were the best of all the campsites we have visited. They even have music in the toilets!

The campsite has a good location near town and has very nice views.
The site for campervans is not that pretty, it looks like a carpark. The facilities are nice with a good BBQ, kitchen and a small swimming pool. Great for family's with kids. It's a nice place for a stopover to the Kauri forest.

The campsite has a lovely relaxed atmosphere.
The manager is very friendly and always up for a chat. The site is very close to the road but at night it's quiet. You'll find the Legendary Black Water Rafting Company just on the opposite of the road. We found that very convenient since we booked a Tour there. You can also book Tours at the campsite.

We ended up at this campsite because Awastone was fully booked.
It was a nice surprise although it is a very basic campsite and it was raining heavily. The location near the river is amazing. We were sorry we had to leave the next morning.

We absolutely loved this campsite.
It has a lot of space on the grass but also some lovely spots on the stoney beach. One of the few sites that allows fires. The bay is very pretty and the sea is very calm. This site is highly recommended.

The campsite is basic but clean.
It's worth the money since it included the entry for the thermal pools. The pools are open very early in the morning for campsite guests and close at nine pm, so you can go in as much as you like. Since it was a rainy and chilly day it was a perfect stop for us. The eco walk is short but very nice. A must do!
