We camped for two nights at this small bohemian property and really enjoyed our stay.
The owner has put a lot of love in to landscaping and developing this property and it has a tranquil relaxed feel, set overlooking the ocean with private beach access. We had hot gas showers and clean composting loos. There was access to a BBQ and a full kitchen and living space in the main lodge and lots of spots around the garden to relax and enjoy views out to Farewell Spit. We arrived after heavy rain so had to ford the river, but this had dropped by the following day and was below running under the crossing.

This is a magic spot.
If you don't want to be in a big commercial camp ground and don't need all the facilities, then you will love it here. It is a small character filled camp ground surrounded by farm land, as close as you can get to Wharariki Beach which is stunning and only a short walk. We were reasonably self contained so only used the kitchen to wash our dishes but it has modern shared spaces. Being a remote rural location they have limited water and no rubbish collection. Paying for a shower makes you consider if you really need one and limits water wastage, toilets were self composting but clean and fresh and packing rubbish out isn't an issue with a recycle centre in Collingwood. Small inconvenience for being able to stay in such a great spot.
Thank you for your review. It is great to read from someone who understands the quirkiness of having a park in such a remote location.

This camp ground is for those looking for a rural high country setting.
It provided everything we needed, a flat camp site, fresh water from the lake, the freshest smelling long drop I have ever experienced and a great outlook. The gravel road in was well maintained and an easy drive from Hanmer. We continued through to Nelson Lakes, but you need a 4WD with reasonable clearance to take the journey beyond the DOC boundary as there are fords and the road was rough and rocky in places. As mentioned in the description, this track is only open certain months of the year.
