We think it is a really nice place.
Yes, it's right next to the street, but it's not very busy. There are even some trees in between and on the other side a beautiful pond. No facilities. Probably space for about 6 - 8 campers. No sandflies.

There is space for 3 campers.
Even though it is pretty close to the street, it was quiet, because there is not much traffic. No facilities at all. We liked this beautiful place and would recommend it.

It is well marked from the road as Simpson Scenic Reserve.
You first cross a bridge and then you arrive at a parking lot with gravel right next to a big lawn (you can't drive there). The parking lot is leveled and has space for 5 to 8 campers. There is even a pit toilet. We liked it here, because you are surrounded by woods and it is really quiet. You can hear birds and far away a creek and a railway. PS: There was a rooster which didn't go away, that was a little annoying. It woke us up at 4:30 a.m. I hope it's not always there...

We have already seen many caves with formations.
But it was breathtaking when we were riding a quiet boat on an underground river while watching thousands of Glowworms on the ceiling.

After some engine problems with our old campervan, we had to go back.
They were really friendly and after a while we had a better van. We were able to continue our journey.

Lord of the Rings half day tour.
Mike, our guide is a big Lord of the Rings fan himself, showed us locations from the movie. Without him we could not have found them. He shared some funny and interesting stories about producing the trilogy.

We can't understand the bad scores about this place.
It was all we needed with our self-contained camper. The location was beautiful, right next to the grass. We didn't bother about the shed. It's empty anyway. We didn't see anybody go fishing. The only thing was the strong wind in the evening and night but we still recommend this camp!

Although it was a long walk, it was really worth it.
It is a scenic landscape with stunning views over the Emerald Lakes and Mt Ngauruhoe.

This place is lovely.
You are right next to a beautiful beach where we enjoyed the sunset. Although you are on a small gravel parking lot (between 4 and 7 campers), right next to the street, it is pretty quiet. It has no facilities. Note: If you are traveling from the west, it is before the boatramp. Traveling from east, it is after. Camping by the boat ramp is prohibited.
