A good price/performance balance for 5$ per person.
If you are lucky, the others may have left you some hot water so you can have hot shower included. The campground is around a cricket ground so there are some places far from the toilet. Anyway still a good option!!

big place and not many people. You can get water (not drinkable) from the river. the ground is clean and there are some far views to Mount Cook.

Nice walk about 30 minutes to the beach with the Cove. Several beaches on the way and if the waves are not high then a good spot.

Nice and short walk.
To avoid passing over boring farmland better park the car at the end of the track and go the reverse. Good for a swim at the water station but don't stop there because the best comes after so keep on going another 1.5km. Total time return about 2hours. Worth it.

Once we booked the Lucky Rookie we read the many bad comments and got really a bit nervous...
So we took a Lucky Rookie for 6 weeks. Toyota van with 380,000km. Ok it can be old but it should be clean and it wasn't. Disgusting mushrooms in the drivers' cabin, the bed was blue before but now grey. Powder everywhere. We took the bedclothes (10$) and 1 pillow was full of hair. The blanket was to small for the thermal inlayer... These things should be checked before giving to customer. We did the mistake to rent the table/chairs. You can buy them for less money in the Warehouse. Also 1 chair was broken. In the area to store stuff there came out 2 sharp screws, to cut hand and clothes... The airport pickup is a joke. You have to call that they come to pick you up (the cost for foreigners is very high for phone calls)... better take a taxi. The cars are old Jucy Cars. All in all it could be much better... No service, old dirty cars... but at least we could do our trip without problems (except the suspension was 0 and the tyres in bad condition). Like the white paint falls of all the time they don't care much about some new scratches..
