Just what you need for a stop-over at the fa end of the North Island.
Minimal toilets and not a lot of space, but very convenient to spend more than a day in the area. Drive until you reach the town of Ngawi, the 2 carparks are on the seaside, the rubbish bins and toilets in between. Make sure you bring water with you.
Lighthouse and seals colony are just 10-15 minutes drive further. Many thanks to the community that provides and maintains this great location! Don't forget to drop a coin for support !!!

A good, free location to stop on the way to/from Cape Palliser.
A good, free location to stop on the way to/from Cape Palliser. Down the steps, the river is pretty, and many locals come during the day for a swim. At night time, the place is dark and quiet, it can get chilly because it is clustered in a valley. One long drop toilet, no paper or sanitizer. Make sure you bring water with you. Enjoy!

This camp should be rated 15/10!!
One of the best quality campsite I've seen so far, and for only $6 per person... amazing! Huge, with many different areas, so you won't have trouble finding your perfect spot. A lot of locals come here just for the day, so it seems busy but quiets down at nightfall. Fires allowed if agreed with the wonderfully nice rangers. Really clean facilities (toilets, sinks, BBQ cleaned at least twice a day). Lovely walks all around, river swims... Thank you, DOC !!!

Secluded area on the shore of the lake, very quiet.
There is a boat ramp, but I didn't see anyone use it. Dry toilet at the entrance. It is a very good location to stop over on your way in/out of the northern part.

THE perfect spot to stay in this beautiful area!
It gets busy pretty quickly though, make sure you arrive early. If no ranger on site, fees should be placed in the honesty box in the middle of the camp. Dry toilets were clean (classic flush toilets in the "day area"). Cold showers outside (no cabins). No drinking water. Access: 2km down a narrow gravel road, but you won't regret it! Make sure you walk the 5km to the Cape, from the end of the beach, the scenery is magnificent!
