Loved this site!
It had everything we wanted. Swimming in paradise-like conditions and great walking. Sad to leave after 3 days, but had to meet friends. Best DOC campsite yet and only $6. But then I don't mind cold showers and drop toilets.

Good value for money.
Loved being so close to Kauri trees. Most people were there for one night, we stayed 3 and did day trips elsewhere from there. Right on gravel road but quiet.

Raetea North Side Campsite

Well it all started out lovely.
Pitched the tent next to the babbling brook and even had an evening dip in it. Sandflies were severe there though. WARNING: if rain is imminent don't camp on the other side of the weir. The water rose about 500mm and was very fast moving carrying dead trees overnight. Four vehicles got stuck there for the day until Kevin who looks after the site came and removed the tree and helped us to escape! Thank you Kevin!

Positives were that we were the only people there.
Very peaceful. Friendly manager. All amenities were old, tired and run down. Not ok for $20 per night!
