Loved this place so much we stayed two nights.
Right on beautiful Lake Okeraka with views across the lake. Ducks abound, there are swans & just to make us Aussies feel at home as there are a mob of wallabies there, unfortunately they are about to be culled because of the damage they cause to native habitats. Anyway this is a lovely place to stay as its only a short drive into Rotorua & in the area of other attractions such as the Buried Village and Blue & Green Lakes. A must visit if you're into self contained touring or camping. A word of warning though, the warden there is very strict so do the right thing, fill out your paperwork & follow the rules.

Great little park.
Good amenities. Very friendly & helpful staff. A bonus is it is a short walk to a great museum dedicated to the kauri logging and gum collecting of the 1800s & early 1900s or do as we did, stay overnight & visit the museum on your way out.

Nice bush camp with plenty of spaces for camper vans.
Close to SH 47. On beautiful creek with some camping spots as well. Drop toilets & no showers. Close to ski fields if you're into winter sports.
Another DoC campsite worth the visit.

Perfect place to drop into to sort yourself out if, like us, you've just arrived, picked up your rental & want to take stock of the situation.
Beautiful location not far from airport, camping ground available or you can park in bus parking overnight ( a bit cheaper) if you're self contained. Just ring from small shed at entry (free phone) to book & pay.

Bush camp with power sites, showers, flushing toilets & camp kitchen.
Nice area to camp with small bush walk including stands of Kauri. Protected area for kiwis as well, with brown kiwis inhabiting the bush.

Great little spot.
Nestled between the hills on a small river which flows into the Pacific Ocean a stones throw from the campground. A few minutes drive from the main road on a well serviced gravel road is worth the drive into this scenic camp ground.

Good park with plenty of spaces for motor homes albeit in May.
Nice aspect, free wifi, all amenities including a very well equipped camp kitchen, dump point, showers & toilets are a bit dated but very well maintained. There is also a spa & sauna which cost $5 per hour but that's a bit of a luxury in a caravan park. Also has cabins there which are very cute.

DoC camps are fantastic stops for low budget camping.
This is one of the better ones we've stayed at on our 15 night drive around the North Island. Beautiful spot right on a waterway with hills either side & beautiful sunset to boot. Short 8k sealed drive in from SH 5. Basic amenities but if you want more there are other options.
