Sea view, low priced.
Although a bit of a struggle to get there over the gravel road, it was it all worth it. Quiet DOC camping spot, $10 per person + $3 garbage tax. Even had excellent Spark signal, but no 2degrees. If they could add hot showers and normal toilets instead of drop toilets it will get a 10. Be aware, the nearest gas station and supermarket is an hour away.

Dated and overpriced.
Also know as Tata Motor Beach Camp. Friendly manager and free good WiFi. Kitchen is small and without cookery. No washing tables, only 1 toilet at the mens and the showers are very basic concrete with a curtain, which you don't expect for two persons in a camper for $36 without power. Nice beach view and quiet although the road is in the background. Manager should step his game up and invest in decent facilities to make it price worthy.

Small campground hidden at the golf club.
The facilities are rubbish, but please use the ladies room under the stairs in the rear of the main building, they are excellent. Also $10 for a powered site is very cheap. Would stop here again for one night.

Great lookout but cramped city camping.
20 minutes from Wellington centre with a nice kitchen and reasonable lavatories. Would use this camping only as a base for Wellington, not to camp. Bit of a grumpy caretaker and a cramped and messy campground .

Off the beaten track, small DOC camping ground with enough spots.
The road to the site is an adventure, enjoyed it while it lasted but wouldn't recommend to do it every day if you love your car.
Gravel road, sandflies, dirty toilets, loud people. $20 for two people in an honesty box - camper without power.

Run by an eldery couple near the beach of Rapahoe.
The camping felt a bit like a horders palace, but this also gave it charm. Stayed there for only one night after we visited the Pancake Rocks. Camping ground has a pool but old and small lavatories.
Well we have been here over 40 years, so I suppose we have grown elderly. Camp was a school which is why it has a pool, but toilets are those used for children. However if you had looked you would have found normal size ones in the centre of the block - provided for teachers once upon a time.

Excellent kitchen and spacious spots.
Only has a few, but very good showers. Would give it more points if it was a bit cheaper and with more showers. Paid $40 for 2 persons with a camper with power. Had some trouble with sandflies :(

Bit hard to find, but at the end of the village.
When we were there it was full, felt a bit cramped. Charming owner and clean lavatories. Next to the beach and reachable through a scenic drive. Small kitchen, people needed to wait to do the dishes. Park was full so felt cramped.

My girlfriend and I were looking for a cheap campervan to travel the north and south island in February 2016.
After checking some reviews on Rankers we decided to go with the company Rental Car Village. They offered cheap campervans with a very low price and looked very reliable. As we are from the Netherlands, reviews meant a lot for us because normally you would check the cars and company on the spot which wasn't possible for us.
In February 2016 we hired the Economy Campervan at Rental Car Village together with the outdoor folding table with two chairs, fridge and GPS.
We took the zero-excess insurance which I would recommend if you want a easy going holiday. When receiving the van, we wanted to to a quick look around to report any damage. They told us it wasn't neccesary as everything was insured. Upon returning the vehicle, we only handed over the key and they told the same thing :) This made our holiday super relaxed :)
For the next time: I would definitely hire with them again and I will strongly recommend them to every person which is looking for a cheap but nice campervan in Auckland or Christchurch.
In total, we drove for 3.5 weeks 4334kms without any issue. So I don't know how the service is when there is something wrong and you need to call RCV or the AA.
Pros:
Cheap
What you see is what you get
Insurance offer :)
Navigation
Cons:
The engine isnt really made for steep hills, so you are always in the passing lane. Getting passed ;)
Car radio was only working on 1 speaker
Window-wipers and blinking light sticks are swapped ;)
The Auckland office is at the airport area
Seats aren't comfortable for driving long periods
Navigation was outdated
Pullout bed was constantly misaligned after driving
Specs of the van:
Mazda Bongo 2007 (Japanese import)
1.8 Petrol engine
228.000 KM run
2/3 Seats
Left steering wheel
